One for the Petrol Heads

My ride on mower i over filled it with oil smoked like shit so drained some off ran a lot better. I have run it a few times since 2or 3 hours, now its geting a right bitch to start, tryed a new plug that has not helped will not start on key but will on pull cord, but thats getting worse to start with also. it is a Briggs Stratton engine, any ideas?might try some carb cleaner. Compression down, stuck rings after over heating perhaps :augie
If 4stroke, old petrol maybe.

rough guess would be air filter ( if it has one ) element contaminated with oil

Clean the carb out

if it starts on the pull cord but not on the key, suggests spark problems, starter taking power away from the ignition system which is week anyway, all the B & S I have had means removing the flywheel and checking the innards, and there are a few models some had points some do not but I have had bothers with the coils, no option but to replace, best of luck, Rick......oh and check the HT lead where it enters the coil in the back of the flywheel they deteriorate inside, so worth replacing..

Could be the coil as its been getting worse over time, will try some carb cleaner with the air filter off, there is a spark just back firing trying to start, when it does go it runs fine.

yes 4 stroke compression ok might have about 50hrs run time. fresh petrol.

Mower running fine now:clap fresh petrol carb clean, coil off cleaned contacts,
new pug set to 20 tho starts on key. thanks for all your tips dont now witch one it was. but who cares:thumbs Laurie.
