Thought ATF was automatic transmission fluid so not for the Transfer box.
Others will know and share correct oils as I only know enough to be dangerous :)

Hi. You can put your reg no into the comma oils website and it will tell you everything you need to know:clap

My 2004 3l auto had ATF in the transfer box (& I've replaced it with dexron 111 ATF!) but it also quotes an alternative oil 75/90 API GL4 & stresses that they are not to be mixed. I'm no expert but I think these appear to be different in viscosity, though I don't actually know what the viscosity of ATF is.

I used ATF as it's very stable regarding viscosity & has very good wear properties. Also being, apparently, thinner it wastes less power. (It's mere coincidence that I only had enough ATF to hand LOL).

I can only assume Nissan know what their doing but I find their range of oil recommendations confusing, to say the least.

ATF is recomended by Nissan as in cold times it stops the transfer box truning under oil drag, which causes the auto hubs to engage, Rick

Years ago on hear probably not long after the forum started there was a thread about transfer box oils and it was said on there to use synthetic oil in the transfer box for the reason Solarman mentioned.

ATF is used in many applications & not all Auto boxes. The Tremec T56 six speed manual in my Monaro has ATF.

Thanks all for your replies. Still nun the wiser lol. Just to replay to a few. Yes ATF is automatic transmission fluid. I have put my reg into the oil sights. Hence why I am asking because putting ATF into my transfer box just doesn't sound right but that's what the sights are saying goes in there. P696SHP if you want to make sure I am not going mad :doh. Lol thanks again lads. :thumbs
