My oil light has now decided to come on and stay on rather than going off when I restart the engine, hoping its still the oil pressure switch.
I have read all the threads about the low and high pressure switches, but cant find anything about if the switches are different, I would assume they are if they are for different pursposes but even the online car parts stores only appear to have one switch.
Can anyone confirm if they are the same switch of different.

The high pressure sensor has a yelllow band the low pressure sensor is all black so I have always assumed they are different. Proper Nissan bit is around £25.00 from memory.

See http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/downloads/workshop/wk42.pdf for how to change the high pressure oil sensor. The ideal deep socket is actually 1 inch 12 side drive though you can get away with 26mm 12 side or 27mm 6 side deep socket.

My assumption was that they are different but not sure, hence the question.
The local Nissan dealer was not much help and wanted to charge £27 so I got one from a local parts place for £6, but again they said only one listed so not sure which one I have got.

I now carry a spare one in the car as I don't like driving with the oil light on. I was chatting to an RAC may at a motorway service area and he seemed to be of the opinion thay would fit one if you had one at the side of the road rather than transporting you home.

Which one are you carrying a spare for ? the one by the startermotor ? and did you get it from a Nissan dealer ?

I had the same thing, I fitted one from the local factors who said there is only one listed, I've not had any problems since.
It was the one on the drivers side of the engine, got to it through the wheel arch area:thumb2

Will try that this morning then and see if it puts the light out.

Well I changed the switch, prayed while I put the wheel back on, and then did stated her up, yes the light went out.
How pleased am I, will take the kids out on some green lanes now to celebrate.

only guessing here but assume low pressure is one on the drivers side and high pressure near the oil filter, this would activate if the filter was near fully blocked causing high pressure on the line, Rick
