I asked my little garage if the would give me a price for changing the t2 oils, engine with filter,
front and rear diffs, gearbox and transfer box. They wanted £120, so as I am time rich but brass poor ( retired) I thought that I will do it myself, so I wandered off to town to price the oil..... with not much successes. First I visited Halfords to give me a starting point. They dont do lsd oil so I took myself off to Partco where the young man told me that there fuchs oil would suit both diffs as they dont do lsd oil and their book recommended the api gls 80/90
in front and back. I have looked on Fuchs web site and there is nothing for lsd. Nissan recommend dextron in the transfer box which as puzzled me as I thought that was automatic transmission oil. So gentlemen, where do I get lsd oil, is it correct to to put dextron in the transfer box and, oh yes, how do you find the transfer drain and fill bungs? regards bri

You need 2.8L I think.

Don't listen to the clown atthe shop - the rear diff must have LSD oil in it. Partco ought to be able to get Silkolene oils (as they are part of Fuchs) and they do 2 or 3 LSD oils.

Personally I use Valvoline oils, but Comma, Castrol etc etc all do LSD oils.

Any motor factor or motorists shop can source Comma LSD oil for you at £4-£6 a litre. 2.8 litres required.

And I think the response you got is typical and underlines common garage practice of just sticking generic oily shite in a car from the nearest drum to hand!

Yes - it doesn't cover the petrol 2.4, the early 2.7TD engine or the early type gearbox but apart from those its right for every other T2/Mav.

Its a 2002 document so if there were any minor mods after that date they might have been missed, but thats all.

Well, I have my lsd oil, but not without some drama. I went to my local Comma oil agent as directed by their web site and asked for lsd gear oil, "whats that " they said, I explained and he looked through the shelf of oils, "no never heard of it" I insisted that I had seen it on our forum, Comma lsd. He said he would look on their computer. Computer say's we have seven bottles...... probebly covered in dust I say if you dont sell it. Anyway I bought three liter @ trade ofcourse. Right, transfer oil.....Nissan use dextron in transfer because it has less drag
and it prevents the the auto hubs locking in by the drag in the heavy gear oil. Gear oil can be used, same as gearbox oil but dextron must be removed. My book says dextron so that what I will use. If the hubs locked in you wouldn't have four wheel drive but the drive shafts would rotate and this would increase the fuel consumption regards bri
