Just wondering, having owned the good, the bad and the ugly (in automobile terms) and subjecting them all to the most obnoxious abuse, never have I siezed one yet, written them off , put con rods through the block (several) holed pistons (a couple) and generally bent, disfigured the rest, never in my (rather abusive) ownership have i destroyed one through lack of oil, surely if a basic maintenance procedure is followed the oil pressure switch can be shorted, linked out in some way?
If basic maintenance is carried out , oil should never be a problem.

Apologies to the purists out there but if your truk feels right and you treat it right it will run forever these engines are pretty much bullet proof, spending 40 quid a time for a part everyone knows is crap seems a wee bit daft to me. Just keep up with the oil changes and don`t treat it like a sports car.
(I know i sound like a hypocrite, but since owning my dippy I`m a changed man.)

Hi Sean, I don't like to have lights on my dash staying on, especially the oil light, the new switch cost me £6, so not breaking the bank:D

On balance I would not like a vehicle without oil pressure indication.

So far excluding the Terrano I have had 3 oil pressure switch failures (Cortina mk2, Triumph Herald and a Transit van) in 30+ years of motoring.

I have also had 3 losses of oil pressure, one in a company car that had been recently serviced and the oil filter had come loose, one on a Universal Tractor (Eastern European brand) due to an oil pipe fracture and a Series II Landrover where the drive to the oil pump had sheared.

The Terrano high speed oil pressure switch should have been sorted by Nissan by now but I carry a spare one and the deep socket as it will probably fail again and knowing my luck miles from home. Price for new Nissan part is £20.77 plus VAT so compared with the current fuel costs not to bad but still a rip off.
