Hi, I have now joined after sitting on the side lines for a while.
I have bought a 3.0 sve and have just done a mini service...oil + filter+ air filter ect, any way, after changing the oil+filter, I drove the car about 15 miles and parked up.
When I started the car, I noticed the oil light stayed on, I turned the engine off, waited and checked the oil level and all looks fine, I have heard that the oil switch can be a problem on these and was wondering if this could be the problem.
I used Castrol magnatec 10w40 oil and a genuine Nissan filter.
by the way, the engine is running very smooth with no knocks or anything.
Any ideas or clues would be very helpful

That was my first thoughts too. Check previous posts as it's been brought up before on here.

Hi Jim, I have had a trawled back through 40 odd pages and didn't find anything, is there an easier way to locate specific posts.

Hi again Firebobby

Here's a cut & paste I saved from a previous thread:

"Faulty oil pressure sensor common on 3ltr T2
The low is by the oil filter the High Pressure is the other side of the engine.
The Black sensor is the low pressure unit.
The Green or Yellow sensor is the high pressure unit.
Part number for sensor is 25240-2X901 it is a black sensor with a yellow band just below the connector or a complete kit for the modification can be obtained using 10007-2X90B, kit includes adaptor and thread seal."

I haven't saved the thread but I'm sure diligent searching or another, more 'Thread aware', member will refer you to the thread(s). Fortunately I haven't needed to follow the advice in the thread so I don't know how accurate it is or where you can get the parts/kit.

Many thanks for that CL, I will have another look, unless anyone can show me :thumb2

Just replaced the top oil pressure switch, took approx 20 mins. Very awkward to get hands on and worse bit was to remove electrical plug as could only get one hand on, BUT then i unbolted the expansion bottle for the radiator lifted out of way (one 6mm bolt) enough slack in hose, This then mate the job a piece of cake as you can reach from front to back. You do need to get yourself a 27mm deep socket (got mine from ebay £5) located at back of engine on drivers side. £24.55 from nissan. Yellow one. 25240-2x901 fault cured!

Hi Lurch, thanks for that mate.
I have spoken to my local Nissan garage and they said it also sounds like the oil switch and Nissan now do a modified version
I have read that there are 2 on this engine, which is the best one to renew 1st :nenau

Mate, 99% of the time its the top switch (yellow) Just replace this one and your troubles will be solved. Just unscrew, put bit of sealant, thread tape etc on and screw in. You will lose no oil mate, unless you do it with the engine running :lol

I took a series of photos showing the easy way to change the high speed pressure switch (the one with the yellow band) when I replaced mine for the 4th time.
Given a few minutes to spare I will write it up as a workshop sheet.
Easy to do by removing the offside wheel and unclipping the rubber skirt, it is located just above and to the rear of the starter motor.

That would be very helpful, I did look in there as it appears to be quite a common fault, also, do I need a long reach 27mm socket for the job
Fred

If you do it from the front then yes you will need a 27mm long reach socket, but by doing it through the wheel arch i reckon you could do it with a 27mm spanner. hopefully some pic's .

Sorry mate tried to upload some more pic's of location etc, but files are too large and can't seem to resize them. Hopefully someone else can post some.

Thanks for that mate, I have bought one from a local motor factors, his list only shows one for the 3.0.
Now it looks like yours but the nut size is 20mm and it doesn't have a yellow band
the markings on the switch say 0.15...fae...12420...v09

and on the box it says ve706045 oil pressure switch.

I have tried to up load a photo but no good

any ideas :nenau

The switch you got mate might be the equivelant non gen one, should be ok i would think, as to uploading pictures i have had problems too, some seem to and some don't, can't shed any light on that i'm afraid mate.

I wonder if the switch from the motor factors is the low oil pressure switch, my suspicion is the "switch" with the yellow band is a transducer rather than a simple switch.

The deep socket required is 26mm but you can get away with a hex sided 27mm. I took the sender to my local tool emporium and tried several sockets but the best fit was 26mm.

Ah, I think I will remove the old one and see if the new one looks the same, if not, I think I will have to order one from Nissan, the guy at my local Nissan garage did say the new switches have been upgraded:confused:

YIPPEE:D:D the new one works, the light has gone out.
I went in through the wheel arch and yes it's very easy to do(with the right tool, 27mm deep socket)
Thanks guys for the help and info on doing this job:thumbs:thumbs

Finally wrote the simple procedure up for those who follow see http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/downloads/workshop/wk42.pdf photos seem to have suffered slightly during the PDF processing but should be good enough.

One final thing the deep socket, some people say use 27mm which will work if it is hex (6 sided), a 12 sided will not work very well if at all. Tonight I did some more tests and guess what, the proper size is 1" imperial which is why the 26mm socket seems OK.
