Oil Level

Just checked the oil for the first time on the Terrano and it's up to the twist in the dipstick??
Was serviced just before I picked it up from the garage 3mths ago so haven't checked it since then? :doh
Is this correct? there look's like a higher an lower groove below the twist?

was the engine hot or cold. if cold i would drain some oil out..

Not noticed any problems but are there any long term issues that might come up having done about 2000 miles with to much oil in it? :nenau
