sounds like back pressure, check engine breather is clear. also is your antifreeze strong enough for this cold weather, block may have been frozen.:nenau:rolleyes:

What would enough anti freeze have to do with leaking oil ?

well if the engine was frozen or slushy it would get hot and possibly pump out oil, i have repaired a few cars etc, that have partily froze, your lucky if the block does'nt crack.:thumbs

Bloody hell block cracking???

well on monday i rang col, because oil was pissing out of mine and i thought i had topped it up too much, and at the time the dip stick was poking out.

any way this morning i was dying to take the dog out in the snow so i thought i would be lazy and dive, but being mindful of yesterday, i opened up the bonnet and topped up the anti freeze with some fresh stuff, also turned on the engine and a oil mini waterfall was cascading out of the top front lip of the oil filter!

after the car had warmed up it stopped, took a quick dip seemed ok, drove down to the cliffs and back and it has stopped.

Does this sound like a "frozen block"? if so how do i prevent it, and where would i find the "breather" to check its unblocked?

many thanks a slightly concerned dan.

hi dan, i would check the oil pressure switch and oil filter first for the leak, i doubt it's a cracked block, although it seems strange that leak stopped when warm, anyway, you can buy a antifreeze tester from your local car spares shop, it will tell you how cold it will protect your engine, remember that it's only a guide, i checked mine about 3 weeks ago a and it's reading minus 18 degres.:thumb2
