i've developed an oil leak, its just a drop on the drive at the moment so i want to get it fixed before it gets worse, i was just wondering if anyone knew the best way to trace the origins of the leak?

if you have changed the filter, then my guess would be that..

if not where abouts under the car is it droping onto the drive

Gear oil or engine oil?

If you have recently done the tappets, if one of the sealing o rings is missing at the back of the head, oil leaks down the back of the engine. Ford service department taught me how to make this happen, that's another reason I took my maverick to a Nissan dealer. Well that was a long time ago, it was under warrenty then.

You need to wash off the oil with a suitable solvent, have a look if it is leaking when stationary, or after running the engine.

I had a slight 1 drop leak out of the rear propshaft seal, I put Molyslip in the gearbox and transfer box and the leak went. No oil anywhere, well on the outside anyway...:lol

Black oily oil lol, i have no idea, i haven't changed anything on the car recent otherwise i would know where to start looking

stuff the oil leak , hows your little girl ?

a torch and a common tool known as the mkI eyeball ;)

Theres no magic way of sussing it. Clean off/degrease the engine/gearbox and have a nosey about stationary (of course:doh) with the engine running.

No sign of it take it for a short drive and repeat the process then have another nosey.

Keep on doing that until it appears :thumb2
