Would drain it and weld patch on it if i were you.If you loose the oil you will need a new engine

Very good point there, more agro I suppose but safer in the long run :thumb2

at least you have found yours mines still getting worse.:(

Would it be safe to weld it FIRE INSIDE ENGINE ??
Was just wanting to seal with some sort of 2 pack stuff/putty etc KEV

what about that liquid metal stuff ive heard of ? :nenau

if you can get at it weld it, if you cannot weld it in situe (drain the oil and weld no problems) then drop the front diff and drop the sump to patch it up properly, as cnc says loose your oil you will need a replacement engine, on second thoughts put some plastic metal on it and when it fails I can sell you my spare Tdi engine, Rick

I have tried using araldite on a drain to sump pipe and it still leaks through it, I suppose youd need to completely clean it up first before applying, in that case youd be as well to weld it

had the same problem on one of my old terrano's.
I drained the oil, made a plate, covered the back with instant gasket then tack welded the plate to the sump.did it on very low power with the mig.
never leaked again.

Leaky sump

Seems to be a bit of a common problem.

My sump went porous and was so patchy I didn't want to fix one bit for another to leak in a few months. Got a second hand sump that was sound which I cleaned primed and Hammerited. Got the garage to replace it when they put the new head on for me. It was quite a big job.

Finding a replacement was a bit of a chore as mine was the 3L. 2.7L sumps were a fair bit cheaper when I was looking.

Good luck
