Hi guys,

I have just taken out my air filter which was totally black with soot. The intake pipe to the turbo has oil deposits in it still wet??? Also the short rubber hose from the turbo to the chamber that runs across the engine is always damp with oil (even to the touch on the outside???)

What do you think??

OIL IN INTAKE

HI I A NEW MEMBER HERE
I HAD THE SAME THING A COUPLE SOLUTIONS BEFORE SPENDING BIG MONEY 1) TO MUCH OIL IN ENGINE CHECK DIP STICK WHAT I DONE WAS DISCONNECT BREATHER PIPE AND FITTED A OIL RESVOIR/OIL CATCH TANK BUT NEVER REJOINED TO THE AIR FILTER OIL IS CARRIED IN THE BREATHER WHICH IS CARRIED IN TO THE AIR PIPE THEN COOLS OFF BUT LEAVES THE MOISTURE BEHIND IF YOU LOOK AT SWEETY FROM YESTERDAY YOU CAN SEE WHAT I MEAN

Hi 4x4xford  sounds like you've got the same prob as me mate  After getting a price from Nissan for the standard oil catch tank (the black thing above the alternator on TDI's) i'm going to do what Scooter has mentioned as it'll be a lot cheeper

So nothing serious then just need to seperate it??

I had a horrible feeling about the turbo as its no where near as quick as my other one, allbeit it has an intercooler, but it has no pick up.

Still it gets down Stanage with no problems and up roych clough. (sorry had to put that in!!  )

TBH i'm wondering the same with mine but I can't feel any play on the turbo blades so am going to try a oil catch tank 1st as I had a lot of oil in the breather pipe whick go's into the induction pipe to the turbo & a bit in the intercooler

have a similar prob with mine where do we get these parts from, any1 got any pics?

Ta

Where does the breather go? do u just t it in?

I assume the tank is a 'straight swap' (is there such a thing!) so what do u do with the filter? What diff in performance could i expect, if any.

The one i'm going to fit will be piped from the breather valve & instead of it going into the induction pipe it'll go to one of the fittings on the tank & the breater filter will go onto the other fitting. I will then have to block the fitting on the induction pipe

Think i'll have to read that whilst looking under the bonnet as im lost, with my intakes and pipes.
Not really paid much attention to the catch tank before just took it off with intercooler.
Had the prob with oil in intercooler but as usual ignored it hoping the car fairys would come and fix it whilst i was asleep.

Just seen it ta. When i've finished paying for my gearbox on my car to be rebuilt i'll start on that, is there anything it'll improve other than my oil consumption?

I SUPPOSE I WILL STATE WHAT IT DOES 1, AIR INTAKE IS SUPPOSE TO SUCK COLD AIR 2, FROM THE BREATHER TO AIR PIPE HOT AIR MIXED WITH OIL FROM ENGINE BREATHER TO AIR PIPE IS CARRIED LIKE MOISTURE THEN THE WARM AIR HITS COLD THEN MOISTURE BACK TO LIQUID CLOGS TURBO SOOT BACK IN TO AIR FILTER AND CLOGS INSIDE OF FILTER AND MAKES CAR RUN SLUGISH
THE OIL CATCH LIKE THE WAY SWEETY HAS SAID THE WAY HE IS DOING IT STOPS THE WARM/MOISTURE GOING BACK INTO AIR LINE

THAT IS THE EASY WAY TO EXPLAIN THAT IS HOW I UNDERSTAND IT

AND PERFORMANCE WAY LETS YOUR ENGINE SUCK CONSTANT COLD AIR WHICH KEEPS YOUR ENGINE RUNNING SWEET AS A NUT
