And this oil it catches isn't meant to be recycled under normal conditions? :nenau

Yes it is but the blowby control valve is poo and clogs up sending the oil to the turbo and intercooler instead of the sump

Ooh arr I see I see. So this just needs to be emptied and the engine oil topped up every now and again :thumb2

the one I have fitted has breather out of it and a return into the sump.
it just cuts out the pipe into the turbo.

elty what did you use to block the inlet to the turbo?

mine is a unit which we make at work, just modified to suit.

the top has now got a proper blanking plug in it.
I used I small bit if tube with the end blanked off in the turbo inlet, held in place with a jubilee clip.

When I was trying to cure a similar problem, I started out putting a filter on the blowby control valve, and I used a "20mm Alloy Hose Blanking Plug" from Ebay to blank off the pipe that goes to the turbo, but at that point did not fit a catch tank, so ended up with a nicely oil washed engine.

I removed that, and went down the oil catch tank, but left the out put going back into the turbo, so the system is still sealed when wading.

Basically, I left the blow by control valve in place, so took the pipe from the rocker cover, through the catch tank, then back through to the control valve. I also filled the catch tank wire wool to help give the oil something to stick to. Like you I have plumbed the catch tank drain, via a "T" piece into the same pipe that runs from the blowby control valve.

Here's mine.

right so when i fit the catch can, i need to just block off the pipe that would of went from the turbo/air intake pipe to the blowby and then fit one pipe from the rocker cover and the other from the sump to the inlets on the catch can :nenau

Big NO....

You need to vent the system, otherwise you will blow the seals and goodness knows what else.

yes... but have a look at how I did it, in my first post on this thread...

If you do it that way, there is no fear of water getting in the engine, and saves a lot of messing around, as all you need to do is add a section of pipe into the breather cct, cut and put a "T" into the sump return, and run a new pipe from the drain of the new catch tank into the "T".

The good news doing it that way is, the sump gasses are also still being burnt, rather than venting under the bonnet, as they were meant to.

First thing Steve when you get the catch tank bin the blue plastic pipe that comes in the kit as it's pure cr@p:doh When I fitted a catch tank on my last T2 due to the same problem I disconnected the pipe that go's from the blow by valve to the induction pipe & ran a new pipe from the BBV straight to the catch tank which I mounted by the fuel filter & fitted a mini breather filter onto the catch tank but I did have to clean a tiny bit of oil up once a month from the inner wing/bulkhead area which wasn't much at all & the tiny amount of oil there only helped to keep Mr rust at bay on that seam:lol I blocked the induction breather hole with a plastic bottle top I think it was but an end cap for pvc pipe would also work:thumb2 the other option would be to pipe from the BBV to catch tank & them pipe from the tank back to the induction pipe as the oil should have cooled enough in the tank. Still got my tank incase the BBV packs up on this one:augie
