the N/S works OK
I think it is the mechanism under the plastic below the windshield
Does anyone have a manual. I used to look at the online one but that seems to have gone walkabout
Anyone had this happen
I have felt the end of the arm, there is no sign of movement so I guess the stuff under the plastic has expired
HELP

Simple fix, the arm tween the NS & OS has dropped off the ball under the NS, you can hold it on with a couple of loose cable ties or better is elastic of some kind, the plastic socket wears and so nothing to hold it on, once on if you can keep it there it will be fine, Rick

Get the scuttle off and let me know if you need any parts mate :thumb2

A Health & Safety warning - disconnect the battery !

I almost lost a finger decades ago when I repaired a wiper linkage on a Vauxhall.

As the motor had "Park" facility the wipers started to move as my hands were in the linkage.

I stupidly thought having the switch in the off position and the ignition off was safe.

This happened to me in heavy rain on the M42 a couple of years back.
I drove steadily to the next exit, parked up and a did a roadside single wiper conversion:lol:lol
like rick says the linkage will have popped off the ball.
i managed to warm mine up with a heat gun and manipulate it back on.
Was still working when i finally replaced it but was very sloppy and the wiper would jump across thee screen.

Did you get the new part off me? I can't remember, I've sold a few now

HELP

I can't figure out the fixing holding down the plastic cover over the wiper mech, looks like it is either hex [Alen] or torque but none of my keys will fit, I am well stuck. There are 3 of them in recesses, at last resort I will drill the heads off is extractors will not work, BUT guidance as to correct tool is best all round

Just plastic clips that push in.
Just pull/prize the plastic trim gently and they will pull out

Thanks

Seems too easy, I should make good progress now, or have I stirred Murphy:doh:doh

Yep there's not alot holds it in place.
Obviously when the wiper arms are on it can't go anywhere.
Some folks do replace the little clips with screws when re fitting for peace of mind.

Phew

OK so far so good, I have the arm out of the car with the blade fitting, hardest bit was getting the blade off the tapered spline, 25 year old screws all came out, impact wrench helped loads
The arm had fallen off the centre fitting
Popped the arm off the blade fitting[dunno what to call it] tried the ball female that had fallen off on the the blade thing, male fitting, it falls off easily
So what is the best to do
I am thinking drill and tap a hole in the end of the male part, then drill a hole in the female to take a machine screw, say M3, with a large washer and use locktite to stop the screw coming out
Or are the plastic female bits easy to get hold of?

What are my best options please :bow:bow

I must say I like the screw idea, not sure how hard the ball is, so may have trouble drilling it and it will need thread-lock or similar to stop the screw undoing, but nice idea, Rick

If my memory serves me correctly they are a nylon cup that the male ball bit fits into.

If you do not use the proper fitting you will find they are noisy and might overwipe as well bashing the windscreen.

Most vehicles have a similar arrangement to cope with the wear and forces but usually not interchangeable between models / brands.

Not much aftermarket ones either - it was an expensive fix on my old Carlton decades ago.

Thanks Rick, I am going to attempt to drill it later will use dremmel type tool with small stone to cut through the assumed case hardening coat, then try to drill and tap
I will update later

I have attempted this type of repair before and it didn't work for very long and made the wipers on the screen so so noisy!!!!

I have a whole linkage in good condition, PM me for a price.

too hard to drill

I saw a youtube video recently about clips to hold them on, cant seem to find it again, any ideas ?

Home wiper repair is a bit like a knee joint replacement a lot of pain sometimes for little gain.

The Nylon Cup is very wear resistant although it does degrade over long periods of time turning brittle.

I would try to replace it with a good used link if you can.

flea bay search might get lucky quite a few listings

That is a good find Ted, might get one of those for the Mrs motor as had to repair that a while ago, had a spare arm and changed the plastic bush, (have to cut the arm and light weld it in) so not the best of jobs, Rick

I have parts guys, think I have at least two of these in storage
