Hi all, well I knew things were going far too smooth with the project truck. Decided to remove the ns caliper from the car to give it a good clean and paint it up, glad I did really. One of the pistons is seized, the other one is fine. Have tried it in the jaws of my workmate bench and tried a lump hammer but wont budge. Also the brake fluid that I emptied out was mucky amd full of bits which isn't a good sign.
So my options would seem to be trust a second hand one from ebay cheapest I've seen is £35 but the norm seems to be £50 or a recon from Milners at £94 plus £30 surcharge.

Not looked at the os yet.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

Not possible to get one of a scrapper?
If not, I'd go for a reconditioned one...

Try lubricating the piston with some brake fluid, it might help to free it.

Forgot to say the calipers on ebay are second hand straight off trucks being broken.

You will find it quite easy to remove the seized piston by refitting the caliper to the vehicle.Bleed brakes so you have a pedal. Remove the brake pad on the side of the seized piston. Brake pedal pressure will push out the piston.

you should be able to push it in with a 6 inch G cramp threaded part into the hollow of the piston, do it on the car then transfer the cramp to the other piston to keep it captive and pump the brake pedal, will take 5 or 6 pumps to push it 2 thirds out, if it is clean with no rust divots then you can get rubbers for it, Rick

Cheers Rick will have to have a go and see what I can do. Thing is the ABS pump is disconnected too for the repairs. Will have to refit the pump and the caliper then bleed the brakes and then try you suggestion to inspect the piston.

put the abs back on but do not mess with brake bleeding I have never done it on a Terrano, just fill the caliper with fluid before you refit it, pushing the pistons in will force all the air back to the master and all is good, Rick

Just a quick update. Whilst the caliper is off the car I've had a clamp on the seized piston over night putting pressure on it to squeeze it into the caliper and it hasn't moved a mm.
Will connect up to brake lines later and see what happens.

if you cannot push piston back with a G cramp at full force then a bench vice might do it, but does sound like it is well and truly stuck, you can try heat as well but new rubbers will be needed, Rick

You did open up the reservoir cap, or the bleed nipple, before trying to push it in?

Its totally disconnected and off the vehicle. One piston pushed back with resistance as expected but the other one won't push in to the caliper or even pull out. Interestingly will twist but very stiff and there is a grating noise when it twists.

I had sh!tty pistons on both sides on my calipers.

In the end I bit the bullet and bought 2 recon calipers locally for about 60-70 each. The time it took trying to unseize them and I still would have to clean the calipers up it wasn't worth me spending more time on it.

Have you asked for pricing at any local motor factors? As theres a good chance they will be cheaper or at least the same price as milner. And you won't have to pay postage to return the old calipers to get the surcharge back...

Good idea Fez, not thought about the locals yet. With it being sunday I went straight to milners site.

Just called a local motor factor and they can do it for £75 for a recon and because I can take old unit in straight away there's no surcharge. Can have it today and get it fitted without too much fuss.

Just a quick reminder...
one member on here, bought a pair of calipers, and accidentally put them on the wrong side...
The bleed nipple should be at the top. Worth checking this when you pick up a replacement, compare old with new.

Keep up the good work, and keep posting those pictures.:thumb2
