Actually I think you are right, the second picture is showing the lorry further down the hill than the first, look at the tracks in the snow in the foreground.

In fact no proof that anything was being towed, you could have done the same picture with a 2CV :lol:lol

Now if it was a Mav or Terrano, the picture would be blurred due to the speed :thumb2

They were the only colours that would complement the colour of rust.:nenau

I worked for a company that had 2 brand new Austin Maxis, the rubber bumper mounts were perished and there were bubbles on the front wings,on the day of delivery.... They had been stored in a wet field for 2-3 years before being sold.:doh

Now... I love Allegros. My girlfriend at the time had an orange one (black vinyl roof) that we inherited from her Dad. It took us everywhere - touring trips to the Highlands, Lakes & back every weekend... Could fix it with a hammer. It looked immaculate to the end - but rust took its toll on tie bar mountings etc. & it wasn't viable to keep on the road. Fond memories...
& the Vanden Plas models? With Walnut trim, folding tables & a grille like a Bentley (sort of)?.........

I had an Austin Ambassador, kept it 13+ years, body work excellent, had it from new, stripped it down, waxoyled everything...........

ALL the problems were mechanical, and most were down to poor quality control.

Nothing tightened up properly, clutch and oil pump fell apart due to loose bolts, clutch slave cylinder full of casting sand. Alternator failed, on inspection, a loose fixing bolt was shorting out the field winding, removed it varnished the coil.... fixed. Rear gear selector seal leaks, easy to replace though.

I carried ball joints and wheel bearings as they used to buzz zzzzzzzzz as you went along, what that was was the small coiled wire spring that went around the outer seal, used to come off and drop into the bearing..
Solution, remove the spring, job done.

Having the same oil in the engine and gearbox :doh:doh

So how did I learn all my car mechanic skills........................Buy BL / BMC /Austin /Morris /Wolsley /Riley / they were all the same..

To learn body work skills you just bought a 70's Jap car, less than 3 years old, plenty of practice on front wings.:thumb2

Just remind me why I use waxoyl...............:bow
