Not so scared up uphill, but downhill?

All very good points but dont use too low a gear. - If available traction is less than engine braking then the engine will stay at tickover and the truck will take off . I havent yet used 4L, ratios are too low imho.

Always be prepared to give it a little throttle to increase wheel speed if you start to slide, since when road and wheel speed are equal is where you have the most control.

I have to confess that I've used 4WD low a lot in this weather and its been outstanding.....much more traction than in 4WDH and got me through some nasty stuff.

I know you'd expect it to be much more torquey but remember its delivering it at less than half normal revs and the tendency for the wheels to spin is significantly less than in 4WDH.

Last night I foolishly came home from Ynsyswen back to Llandovery over the Black Mountain....from the state of the snow up there I'd say less than a dozen vehicles have been there in the last ten days....and there was drifting snow all over the shop. Road is very narrow with ditches and/or falloffs either side that you'd never get out of in this weather, and no mobile signal at all (luckily the wife was pissed and asleep in the passenger seat!), as well as being very steep in many places.....friends Range Rover just about made it to their farm two miles along the route while muggins carried on. In 4WDH I struggled on some of the slopes and lost direction in a couple of drifts, so stuck it in 4WDL and what a transformation, uphill and down.....

Oh and by the way, this was the wifes automatic....

gets my vote!
