Hiya,

Hopefully some experts can help steer me in the right direction here.

My '98 petrol terrano is battling to start, engine is turning over and is trying to fire. Prior to this I suffered a few stalls where the engine just lost power and cut out (as if there was water on the plugs or no fuel. The stall/misfire went away once the car warmed up... and I have not driven it since (about a week - until today).

To start the car today I had to pump the throttle, something which normal results in the car flooding at not starting - today it had the opposite effect.

I'd ordered a new fuel filter just in case its a flow issue.. or perhaps the fuel pump?

I'm not brilliantly mechanically minded, but can follow instructions pretty well.

Ideas welcome

Fuel pump, fuel pump relay, tried a set of plugs ?

Are the fuel lines corroded over axle by fuel flap ?

I'll have a look a the fuel line tmw morning to check for corrosion.

What gets me, is that, when the intermittent "problem" is at bay, the car performs superbly - no problems, misfires, smoke or anything... you'd swear you were dreaming of issues.

I'll also swap out the plugs tomorrow (those I can find

Where is the fuel pump relay?

Hey chaps

I've been looking through the on-line manual provided on this forum and I cannot seem to find much info on the 2.4 petrol when it comes to changing fuel filters and fuel relays... seems only the 2.7 is covered....

any ideas?

rick has the petrol engine manual ( i cant seem to find it on my pooter ) , he owns a couple of petrol 2.4's too ...... plus he's a genious :thumb2

thanks Briggie

hopefully Rick can help :)

I have some time over the next day or so to "fiddle" so with some handy instructions and an enthusiastic approach I'm happy to give it a go !!

Here is a pic of the pipe you need to remove prior to doing the filter, it is the one with the white paper on it, I would suggest that once you have relieved the pressure that you put the pipe back on, and then remove the outlet pipe at the tank as fuel will run by gravity once you remove the filter and it will not stop till the new filter is back in and this can be surprisingly hard when fuel is running down your arm, Rick
