the last advice from Nissan on this is use Auto Transmission fluid in the transfer box to reduce oil drag when cold, Rick

On mine it did it before and after the oil change.

I thought it was just the switch sticking, and sliding out slowly, but as I say I never looked into it any further, as I have to reverse to release the auto Hubs, and by then it has dropped out anyway.

Next time I am on grass, or snow (next week??) I will look a bit harder.

It's nothing to worry about bud - sometimes there's a bit of strain left in the driveline so it doesn't drop out straight away, just needs the slightest touch in the opposite direction then back to let things release. Had heard of it with the tractors but the sunvisor 4wd sticker in the Y61 Trols also mentions it.

Maybe the rock of the engine/truck going backwards was sufficient to disengage the transfer box ?

My Patrol does not always like coming out of 4x4 have auto hubs never tried reverse as mine is the lever on transfer box does not move to 2x position.

I had a day of silly niggles yesterday. Went laneing with about 10 landies
One never made it as far as the first lane, one spat out all it's oil and nearly all had their bonnets up :lol Top hoses blown off, snorkels came off, and numerous electrical failures
I have to admit one fault with the Trol mind the bloody o/s windscreen washer jet got blocked :freak3:
