I am just on the road to recovery from contracting what I believe is Norovirus.
We were at our daughters on thursday, a 2 hour drive away and were ready to start back at 6:30 pm when the first sign of sickness hit.... so bucket in hand, wife driving, we proceeded up the Motorway I was sick three times, we managed to get to the services.. half way home, and then the other end started...:doh then I laid on the floor of the disabled toilet for 1 1/2 hours in and out of consciousness, telling my wife we had to get home, don't call 999 so a change of clothes later... I stumbled to the car and my wife drove as fast as she could for her... We got home, and again ..... more visits to the loo..
Anyhow, yesterday was my first day with some food, and today, I feel better but still nauseous, As always, I share all things with my wife, and Saturday morning, she came down with it, not surprising as she was in close proximity to me during the vomiting, and this virus goes airborn in seconds..
She has started to get over it very quickly, but we think due to my other medical issues, hormone treatment etc, this has reduced my white blood cells drastically.
So I have had to cancel a blood test and a visit to my oncologist, as this virus can stay active for several days after the last symptoms... What a year....
So keep away from anyone who appears or have had similar symptoms recently, and wash your hands regularly.
I think I picked it up, when we took our grandson to playgroup and I ate a mince pie. Norovirus can be picked up from door handles, sneezes, or even off clothes and hard surfaces, many days after they were contaminated, so if you follow the "three second rule" or what ever, when you drop or place something, you might be in trouble.:doh
This has been the worst bug I have ever had, and have been confined to bed for the duration... This being a virus can not be treated with medication.
Plenty of fluids and immodium, and diurolyte to restore lost electrolytes is the way to go.
So next time you are in a pharmacy, stock up, I can recommend the immodium instants, they dissolve on the tongue without water.:thumb2

Sadly it's the time of year for bugs but that one is terrible, once had it in our house hold and we all felt not right for weeks and weeks afterwards. Hope you are both up and around for Christmas.

Hows your daughter and her family, hope they're ok.

You know the environment that I work in, I carry my own bottled water and use the hand gel all the time.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply, our daughter had a bit of sickness once on Friday, but that was it, her husband, and our grandson are perfectly ok, I'm glad we left there when we did, we were tempted to stay over... but after I was first sick there, I got in the car, my wife bleached the downstairs cloakroom a minute before we left, we were better out of there.

You have my deepest sympathies... Glad you are now on the right side of it..

Luckily I am pretty healthy, and even so, when I got it a couple of years ago, I really thought I was dying... so with your reduce immune system, I can only start to imagine how bad it was for you.

I am lucky, as I am very rarely physically sick, in fact I think the last time before that was a dose of food poisoning about 15 years earlier.. but that Norovirus was just horrible, I was sick to the point I had nothing left, and was then still sick some more. Worse still, I could not afford to relax any muscles, as I had no idea what was going to come out of where... Like you, we were away on holiday, and had to drive home (Poor Suz had to drive 350 miles in my car, with me dying beside her, when she does not normally drive anywhere near that sort of distance)... we even tried to rent the cottage for another week, but it had people coming in the same day we were leaving, so we had to go... I bet the next people had a great holiday!!!

Oh mate, that sounds like a nightmare  Plenty of rest & get some fluids in you. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet soon :thumb2

Hmmmm that's interesting as I've had this all weekend too but I swore that it was a dodgy curry I had on Friday night :doh

I kept my first meal down last night, everything else I threw up all weekend :(

I bet if it wasn't for the 8 pints of lager, you would have been much worse lol.:lol

Hope you have a decent recovery Rustic, that's a nasty one.

I contracted Campylobacter once, when working with pigs, it was a very long term problem......

My Wife had some quite severe lower right hand side abdominal pain for most of 2014 having been prescribed Tramadol , she had all the unpleasant investigations with the camera on a long bit of drain rod and the Consultant seemed to have no idea what the cause was. In Spring this year she caught the Noro Virus and had two days in bed with all the dreadful symptoms you had Rustic. She too imbibed Brandy when she started to recover.

When she recovered fully about a week later the RHS abdominal pain had gone and has not returned her G.P. was mystified !!
