Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem,
When I press the clutch I hear a loud whining noise and a vibration in the pedal, tried changing the fluid and bleeding but its not much better although the pedal feels lighter. Seems to do it more when its cold and eases off when warm. Also does it when I hold the clutch down for a long time ie at traffic lights.
The clutch dosnt slip but im thinking of putting a new one in....
Any suggestions would be appreciated:nenau

Sounds like it might be the thrust bearing.

I agree.
Still better than the whining noise and vibration when you let the clutch out, as this indicates bearings on the input shaft of the gearbox, a much costlier exercise.

But to change the bearing only, is the same amount of labour as a clutch, so change both anyway.

However, if the clutch is not fully disengaging, due to air in the clutch pipework, or maybe the actuator fork, controlled by the clutch slave cylinder, then this should be easy to check.

Get a non technical person to press the clutch down, engine off !!! and go underneath and watch the movement and check for side play etc.

You may have to explain to the non technical person, which pedal to press, even though that non technical person has been driving for a long time. :doh :doh

Been there done that, when bleeding the brakes, press down... hold release.... etc and you realise nothing is coming out of the brake cylinder bleed screw, as the non technical person had been pressing the clutch by mistake..... :doh :doh

No women were harmed in the writing of this statement.:naughty

However I might not be getting any dinner tonight...:augie:augie

Usually when the trust bearing is bad, it also whine or rattle when idle and in neutral.
But then the bearing is very bad.
If you are changing the clucth, you also change this bearing (don't forget the crankshaft seal and check the flywheel for cracks)
