Started getting a whining noise when I go above 4000 rpm while driving, sounds like it's coming from the engine bay. What's your thoughts

Does it stop when you push the clutch pedal in and roll, if so, it's clutch or gearbox related.
If not, it could be diff or a bearing going out.

You go above 4,000 rpm? :eek: Don't think I've ever had the Trol up that far! :lol

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if there's extra noises at that high a rpm :nenau
 
Are we talking about the 2.4 petrol engine or the 2.7TDI engine ? TBH the only time my 2.7 go's to 4K is when giving it some stick to blow the cr*p out of the engine as they start to red line at 4500rpm:augie
 
Right guys, the noise was from my inter coller I left one of the clips off the big hose and the starting problem was heater plugs, so now off out for a test drive. Fingers crossed
 
So you must have a 2.7TDI then:augie reving the engine over 4K isn't the best thing for these engines & they red line at 4500rpm & you don't get any more power gains after 3800rpm infact the bhp starts to drop off
 
Mark I used to drive my old SWB very hard & to it's limits 90% of the time & noticed you could feel a slight drop off in power past 3800rpm but a couple of times a week I will rev it to 4K just to blow some cr*p out of the system. I found when wanting the most from the engine keeping the boost pressure up between gear changes helps loads as it cuts the turbo lag time right down so when giving it some stick I normally blip the throttle or do a part full throttle gear change but at the end of the day it's an old style dirt diesel engine which were built for pulling & not speed:augie
