Hi guys! Noticed over the last couple of weeks that the engines making a particular noise longer than it used to. when I used to start/pull away there is a roar for a while then after a couple of minutes it stoped. Now it continues for 15 odd minutes. Any ideas?????

sounds like viscous fan .... perhaps your truck is low on coolant /radiator stuffed / overheating ?

I may be wrong of course , but im sure someone with more knowledge than me ( almost everyone ) will be along shortly to advise

Temp gauge is where it always sit, coolant in rad and reservoir normal.

could well be the fan, but very difficult to test, what happens when the engine has stood for a while the viscous fluid collects at the bottom so when you start it takes a couple of minutes to pump into the correct places, then it stops driving, when the bi metallic coil spring on the front gets hot enough a valve opens and the fluid drives the fan, this is the bit that is hard to test, you need very hot air when the engine is running and I do not know how to accomplish that, trouble is if it has failed the engine will overheat very quickly, Rick

nothing to worry about mate, mine is doing it more often now because the weather is a lot hotter than normal, it's just the viscous fan

I wish mine stayed on all the time it sounds like a beast lol

Glad I am not the only one, sounds so much better than a whiny electric fan.
