Hi All

Figured its time I looked into 3 noises that are annoying me on the T2.

1. When I pull up and turn the engine off obviously these engines come to quite a violent stop and thus when doing so vibrates the car, and sometimes, I hear like a squeek that possibly coming from the side steps or under/towards the back of where I sit. Is there anything obvious I should check?

2. Slight clunk / metal banging when I change gear and lift the clutch when driving, it comes from the back, I think towards the rear diff, doesnt sound major i.e. its not loud or anything but could be the sign of something that needs servicing?

3. The sunroof / roof. I think its the sunroof cover thing that sorta rattles whenever the truck vibrates i.e. on uneven road or when in low revs etc. Fine on the motorway at 70 but its getting a bit annoying ;) - Is there anything that people have done before that I can do to sort this.

Thanks
Gav :bow

1 and 2 sound like exhaust. mine is same, new rubbers on order.

3. there are plastic clip i belive, that brake,

my guesses only, i could be wrong. it HAS been know I was wrong once.. 1999 I think it was, got married to the first Mrs Zippy.. BIG mistake! LOL

lol, is the exhaust an easy fix for a complete nubbin?

Any chance if its warm tomorrow you could take a couple of pics of where yours is broke so I know where to check mine ;)

1. I wouldnt worry (yet anyway) ;)

2. Could be any number things. A loose item clank or mechanical backlash being taken up. First steps are to tighten rattle and check everything you can reach underneath the truck. The grease up as above, make sure all oils are as they should be (type and amount) Someone may have had the same ting and can advise :thumb2

3. No knowledge at all mine rattled a little bit now and then but was 100% intact :nenau

Ok chaps, ta muchly, I will get crawling tomorrow and see what I can see lol

Spare Wheel bracket, the spot welds break between outer skin of tailgate and frame work. Think the fix is to drill straight through and bolt it all together. Creates one hell of a squeak but mine is usually when the weather is very warm.

Sunroof rattle is common place, can't remember weather the glass has to be tilted or fully open. There are a number of screws to be tightened. Apparently even moving the screw a fraction can tighten it up enough to stop the noise.

Clivvy knows the exact screws.

( from another thread )

No its a much simpler job than that! I drove around Europe with a large lump of foam stuck in mine. The cure, ten minuets at the most. open sun roof, look down inside and you will see a rail at either side. in each rail you will see a screw, adjust this screw and the rattle will disappear.......just like that! regards bri

Just had another look at my roof (hot sunny day here in the lakes) If you tilt the roof and look down from the outside at the back where the roof is open there is a screw at either side
you will need a very short driver or a right angle driver, this affects the blind.. regards bri

Nice one briggie, sounds like a nice easy fix :)

Lets just hope its not the actual cover thats rattling otherwise seems I have to put up with it ;)

another daft question, a lot of stuff seems to be fixed with grease..now, to a complete idiot, which kind of grease do I buy lol!

3. Check for loose screws. Some are hard to reach buy it cured my rattle. Nev

yup, as Peter has said, open sun roof on tilt, theres 4 short screws that are hard to get to. use an angled screw driver and tighten them up. they run along the rear of the sunroof frame where the sunroof sits in...if that makes sense.
