After a long highway drive I noticed yesterday that my T2 makes a kind of squeeling noise when I turn the steering wheel to the right (and only when turned to the right).

Sounds like something rotating and touching somewhere, comes and goes like. The wheels are not rubbing, and it happens all the time when the wheel is turned to the right, not only on full lock.

Any ideas? Haven't had the chance yet to check it out, as it was quite late yesterday evening...

Ah the auto hub life :augie :augie

I remember this crap, probably why I ended up going through 7 sets on the Maverick :doh

No auto hubs, manual (AVM) hubs. Worked fine in the afternoon in both 4x2 and 4x4, before a long highway drive I always change them to 4x2. Will check tonight if I did not miss one though!

As already said, easy first check is a stone in the brakes... My T2 seems prone to it, pretty much every time we go off road, or on a newly surfaced road, I get a stone in one side or the other, and does just as you say, only making a noise when you turn one way.

I take it, it only does it when you are moving, not when stopped but moving the steering wheel.

Will check that one as well :). Had to do some proper mud driving, so a stone in the brakes could very well have happened...

Had another thought, check that both front brake calipers are moving freely. Could one of them be sticking and causing a slight bit of noise from one side, not sure why this would happen turning one way though but worth a shot. For that matter could a rear brake cable cause this to happen to the rear brakes too.

So, had to drive the T2 this evening before I could check in depth what is causing the noise.

Strangely enough, nothing to hear now - on the same roundabouts and turns where yesterday it made the noise. I did check steering fluid and manual hubs: all ok...

It was probably a stone then, and reversing in or out of the drive popped it out..

I was going to ask if reversing made any difference, on a couple of occasions when mine has done it, reversing a few meters was enough to pop it out.

I'd rather not be obliged to use the radio :)

Need the T2 the coming weeks for going to work one or two days a week, preferably without funky noises.
