Hi, I have a 2006 y61 patrol,72,000 miles. only used for travel, and the odd green lane outing, so no serious offroading. recently a "droning noise" can be heard from the o/s wheel.
I have jacked the car up and there is no excessive play on either wheel and no excessive heat to the hub, so I dont think it is a wheel bearing ?????.
4 wheel drive engages and disengages fine and the manual hubs seem to lock and unlock fine. (I tend to only use the auto hubs as I have no need to manually lock them in) I havent yet removed the freewheeling hub to see if it is dried up inside. Does the centre nut have to be in the "lock" or "unlock" position before removing it ?
I have removed a bolt from both knuckle flanges on either front wheel and there is no sign of any water penetration. all seals from the exterior seem fine. hopefully this is just a case of a bit of grease needed or has anyone experience of this with the trols and impending doom ????
