Hi All,
Just a quicky ( i hope ) engine running in neutral 'rattley' noise from gearbox ( i think ) when clutch is down noise stops why? (said it'd be quick)

ta Ryan

Hi Ryan, bob round to mine sometime and listen to mine and yours together if you want to compare the two.

The rattle stops because the layshaft and input shaft stop turning, with your foot on the clutch. Otherwise with your foot off there are a few things spinning around doing nothing but making a noise.

Mine made the same noise, thought it was the thrust bearing, unfortunatly not. After about 6 months major probs with gearbox, man who fixed it said it was the end bearing starting to break down.Because I left it so long it did break down and took a lot of teeth of other gears making an awful mess to put it politley,it cost about £700 to put right.

It sounds just like mine  Giggsy do you get the odd day when it seems to have gone quiet ? mine does this now & again. I asked nissan for a price to have it repaired & it was going to cost £1k plus so i'm just leaving it until I start getting probs the gears or it just go's bang, then i'll look into fixing the box or getting a replacement one

Jim, i'd have to wash it! wouldn't want to turn up on your street with the old girl so mucky (not off road mucky either just winter car better wash itself mucky  ) Plus i've lost two off my hub covers in 3 months so it'd look like a hobo had turned up!

Sweety, i think it comes and goes or do we just learn to ignore it untill you've nowt on ya mind and it seems to be there?

After forking out 1k for my gearbox etc on other car it'll have to wait till the auto pixies fix it if theirs a problem just like my other burning issues namley exhaust and crank sensor.

mine does the same, also did it on my maverick from 65000 miles till i got rid at 167000 and it`s still going strong.
paul.

the gearbox man who sorted mine out a few months ago, said with terrano's and mav's it's quite common with the thrust bearing to rattle. he said not a lot to worry about, just annoying to the driver!

Ryan, you obviously aint looked at mine properly then LOL

It's like the Clampits in my drive LOL

jim 'clampits'? i've only just hit the big 30 what or who are they!

I have a bit of a rattle on mine at times when stationary with clutch up and after 20k with it, its no better or worse, after having a problem with the gearbox on my previous T2 this is a different noise with no apparent gearbox noise when driving and I have more or less convinced myself its clutch related.

I think Jim is refering to "The Beverly Hillbillies" which was a t.v. comedy.
