:nenauHI all any chance of some much need help please, my maverick has'nt been on road for a while (been away) and when i went to start it it run very rough and the throttle position made no difference to engine rpm. I have checked the fuel filter primer bulb and strangely does not pump down hard any more and when you do pump the car revs more so i started thinking fuel starvation any ideas would be graetfully appriciated, as now it wont even start. Ford Maverick 2.7gls turbo intocooled version.

keep pumping the filter with the engine off until it firms up. It can take a while. If it won't pump up you have an air leak into a fuel line somwhere.

check back drivers side arch area, fuel lines run along the chassis.

thing is, throttle is electric, have you checked the codes? I ask, because I am having the same issue and its definately not fuel starvation for me, its electric.

first, with igntion set to on, you should see the MIL lght bottom left of the dash, orange, is that there? If so, good, and if you cant start the car, you need to read the codes by following the guide in the downloads section (members only) or get the codes read at a garage etc. It could be that you have a short on the pedal, a voltage error can result in no response when pressing the pedal.

also, I would check the microsowitch on the pedal. If its stuck, the car wont think you have pressed the pedal, thus will remain in idle! if you look at the pedal, you will see a small black microswitch, push the pedal down to reveal the actual switch...give it a spray with electrical contact cleaner only to release it. The throttle sensor is right at the top with a grey and brown plug coming out of it...

Either the diaphragm has split in the primer, or more likely, the chassis pipes are rusted and sucking air...

hi thanks everyone so far, cant see no leeks on fuel pipes will do diaphragm on saturday but with refargs to electrical the engine light is not showing fault but how do i read codes at home. Do i need a code reader and ifso what one. Cheers mark

you dont have tosee a leek, just enough to suck air IN

ive replaced mine with clear pipe, internal 8mm

you need a paper clip my friend. you bridge two points on the plug that is down by your right knee under the flap where the fuses are. There is a guide in the downloads section, can you get to the downloads section?

ooh and should have mentioned, ive taken banjo fitting off of front of the injector pump the one with the spacer on it and there doesent appear to be any little filter thing. Strange cos ive had the car from nearly new. Is the filter only on certain pumps. My pump looks like a bosche ve type with a big sqaure box of electronics on top (replacing the regulater).

I dont think they all have them, but look inside what you took off, incase its in there and not the pump...

If you've got leeks in your fuel lines you have big problems BoYo

Best to check for fuel leaks.:lol

Maverick no throttle and now no run at all

Well thanks everone so far going to set about it on saturday. So if anyones got any more sugestions that would be great.....need to get it at least running.

I think the most important thing, is to get the codes. Also try cleaning the ground wires-the ones for the pedals are very small and sit on the engine block near the dip stick.

OK Everyone quick update done the fault code reader and am getting code 18 (one long and 8 quick flashes). Checked fuel lines for visual leaks and tomorrow i will try to run by passing filter and fuel lines by putting both hoses in engine bay in can. Diaphraym thing in primer (on top filter) has no holes and filter did have fuel in when removed. Also fuel looked clean. Double checked the banjo filter thing and mine def does not have one. On closer inspection i have a zezel pump(fybywire set up) snd there seems to be a strange whirly noise coming from the top. How far can i dissmantle pump in situ? I have checked microswith on throttle assemble and makes and breaks as it should. Just want the damn thing to run. erhhh!:nenau

You should be eliminating air leaks first. If the pump wont get hard you can put an inline pumpy thing like on outboard engines. The fuel pipes corrode and let air IN so initially you wont even see the leak.
As Zippy usually says, you can test for air by putting a bit of clear pipe after the air filter.

plus one for makeitfits comments. Make sure you use decent quality hoses and clips. You'll need clear hose to and from the filter so 1 metre is plenty. Pump away and watch for those air bubbles ! More likely to be rotten metal pipe underneath the car but you may as well start with th easy stuff.
