Hi All,

The T2's been looking a bit shabby lately, OK I only use it occasionally as a Shooting/Fishing vehicle and it doesn't get cleaned that often but the Bumpers and Wheel Arches were turning very Grey.

Have used Black to Black, Trim Wax etc. etc. in the past but all seem very expensive and don't last very well.

Anyway read on the Web about using Boiled Linseed Oil, found some in B&Q think it was £3-4 a bottle so thought I'd give it a go, so after giving the T2 a quick clean and fitting the parking sensors at the weekend I applied some onto the Trim and Bumpers and was amazed for the money just how good a job it did.

Some Pictures can be seem below of before during and after the one of the front bumper really shows the difference it made:

The best bit was that it hardly took any of the oil at all to do the whole job, I reckon I could do the lot at least 20 times from one bottle.

Not sure how long it will last on there but will keep you all posted.

Hi Extreme,

I've not been home to see it since I applied it but should be back tomorrow.

I will check to see what it's like then.

Dino, would be interesting to see how long it lasts, how much you would need to use and also what it costs.

shouldn't be at all sticky; i've used it often as a wood treatment in France and it dries off pretty quickly.

With the trim wizard from auto smart you use a very thin amount just to cover surface, i guess with linseed oil you only need that much just to cover bumper again

did mine with back to black last night - not a good result, off down to B&Q to get some linseed

linseed oil, thats what they use on cricket bats isn't it?, and thats not sticky as far as i can remember. :nenau

What a fantastic difference. However...

Fire risk ! just found this on the internet.

Rags soaked in linseed oil are liable to self-ignite. Soak them in water and dispose of them.

From a quote on the internet.
Boiled Linseed oil is a very real fire hazard. I nearly burned down my house with a bucket of Boiled Linseed soaked rags I left sitting after finishing my floor. I wanted an old fashioned oil and wax floor finish, but I had no "old timers" around to warn me about the fire hazard. Boiled Linseed Oil soaked rags will spontaneously combust. I confused the warning on the side of the Boiled Linseed oil can with the old, common-sense warning against leaving oily rags around where something like a spark or cigarette might start a fire. I learned the hard way that the can had a very different, specific warning. Boiled Linseed oil is safe once you know to soak the rags in water when you clean up.

We use boiled oil in the navy, to oil the anchor and chain gear, most fittings on the upperdeck, also used for stainng our leather rigging sets.

rustic, lmao :lol, I have this vision of a Terrano or Mav tearing down the road with its plastic work gentle burning away, links nicely to the other thread.........................

I love the smell on linseed in the morning..................:lol

i did my disco bumpers today, they look like new now, just poped to garage and put the rag in the garden over a gas bottle, dont want it ignite in the garage.:lol:naughty

AutoSmart:Highstyle,Krill,Tango,Pazzaz are also good :thumbs

& as we saw on a previous thread

Peanut Butter.!

Hi All,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, bumpers not sticky and still black although we haven't had any rain yet. Will keep you updated.

It's definately worth a go though.

till i remebered !!

i blame the heat!

Just linseed oiled my trim!

So as you posted in June how did your experiment go and what can I look forward to????:nenau

Hi Dave,

Well so far so good, none of the plastic has burst into flames.!! lol

Bumpers still not gone back to being grey although could do with another coat now.

Must admit I haven't cleaned it since as it spends a lot of it's time across fields at this time of year and just gets covered in dust. So if you clean often then it probably won't last as long.
