No drive

I once had one of the damper springs break on a clutch the broken part fell between clutch friction material and the cover plate so I had drive all the time.
I am still surprised the clutch centre can rip out and not kick up a noise after.

what happens in this case is the fingers that sit between the two parts of the centre plate break off, the springs stay in place but no drive, have to say fairly unusual although I have heard that some sub standard after market plates suffer from this, Rick
 
Another reason this can happen (and with the Terrano box being so heavy and off balance) is when the box is being put back it is allowed to hang on the centre plate, so deforming it, this usually results in gears being difficult to get as the clutch does not clear so well, but if the plate is only slightly bent, then over time with the plate flexing slightly all the time then it will break away, Rick
 
I bought the motor in 2004 when I retired it had 50,000 miles on the clock

It as 155,000 miles on the clock now and as far as I now this is the original clutch
