Hi guys need some help, I was out on a call with Hants and berks this weekend and after dragging a Porsche Panamera out of the field I went to drag a alpha out and just covered his car in mud from the rear wheels, I seem to have lost all drive from the front, I checked my manual hubs and they were still locked in and I didn't hear anything go crunch or bang, still in fwd but nothing. Any ideas please

I'd be looking at your hubs first, even one going would make you lose 4wd bud and you wouldn't necessarily hear a bang or anything :nenau

Quick way to check is with the transfer box in 2wd and the hubs locked try and turn the front prop by hand. If you can turn it you've likely got a hub gone.

Ok I'll check this week but if it is a hub I'll be miffed as I only changed to manual hubs 6 months ago

Think the standards are known to go when being worked hard but doesn't sound like you were doing that and my 4.2 has standards and has been worked hard with no issues :nenau

I did have to drag a transporter backwards for about 200 yards and the guy in the transporter was quite heavy on the brakes so it was tough going, the revs were high 3000 rpm and not going more than 3-4 mph so maybe that put to much strain on them

Right, I had the hubs off today and they seem to be working ok. So I put them back on and switched them to 4x4 then tried to spin the front prop shaft, would not spin so put then to 4x2 and the prop spins. So I took it for a drive, now it seems to work. So why should it not drive the front wheels when it was working fine whilst dragging one vehicle then not work when dragging the next without even stopping or getting out of the truck. I'm baffled :nenau:nenau

Maybe lever 4x4 4x2 was knocked out of position I did that a few times

That's true, maybe it wasn't engaged in 4x4 properly. Otherwise are you sure both front wheels were not spinning? Maybe one was one wasn't :nenau

I've had the exact same symptoms described here when I was using Auto Hubs on my Maverick, took them off, put them back on again and they were good as gold again.

I can only presume I'd refilled them with way too much grease which prevented them engaging somehow

I got out of the truck and checked the hubs, stuck them back into 4x2 then back to 4x4 and double checked that I hadn't knocked the 4wd lever out of position and defo only 2 rears driving, it's a bizarre one for sure.

Give them a right good clean out and degreasing then just put a thin smear of copper grease on before re fit, works wonders :thumb2
