Hi everyone, just got back from a weekend away in the caravan and on return noticed no brake lights on the truck which in turn game me no brake lights on the van. I ve checked the fuses and bulbs no problems there so any body got any ideas of what to check next? :nenau

I would have thought that there had been a wiring fault on the van, that caused the fuse to go in the car as the first issue.

But since you have checked the fuse and that is ok, ..... have you actually replaced the fuse?

Failing that, and it is unlikely that all the bulbs have gone, then the brake light switch may be to blame.

You can always short the contacts on the switch and see if the lights come on.

just a thought .... a broken wire / loose contact does not always result in a blown fuse

Thanx for that lads just been out and twiddled with the switch and wiring at the top of the pedal and bingo, we have light. Ill leave it at that for now and see what happens :clap

The extra load of the additional brake lights, approx 4 amps extra, has put a strain on it. Might also be poor contacts on the connector, but at least you are in the right area to sort it. :clap :clap

I think I saw you on your return yesterday.

About 17:30 near Jnc 29 M1 I was in fast lane and past a Terrano towing a caravan with all black wheels and a club sticker in the back :)

Nice looking truck mate if it was you. :clap

Yep thanx, that was us on our way home after a great weekend. I saw you pass, should have give us a wave. :thumb2

assuming the switch is the same as a later truck you can either buy a new one on e-bay for about £5 or take it apart and clean the contacts... had the same issue with my truck/caravan and it just needed a quick contact clean with a bit of wet/dry paper
