Hi all

I'm new to these forums so be kind!!

I have a Nissan Terrano II SE which is dearly loved by the whole family, but we have some problems and I'd appreciate it if you could advise?

Recently this had its MOT, and although it passed we were informed we had 'a leaking Half Shaft joint, presumably the seal'. We were told that this was a job for a transmission specialist (is it???), which sounds quite expensive. Assuming the diagnosis is correct, can anyone give me some idea of the cost of getting this repaired?

We also have a strange clunking/pinging sound occasionally when the steering is on full lock - any ideas what that might be?

Finally, very, very occassionally there is a knocking noise when we steer to the right and I'm not sure what that is either. Any thoughts?

Many Thanks in advance

Richard

knocking will be steering stops, common problem. Just stick some grease on the end stops.

welcome to the club, the clunking when steering as Fez says will be your steering stops, as for the half shaft someone will no doubt be along to advise you on it but most things on our lovely trucks is repairable by yourself, have a read through the downloads section, theres a wealth of knowledge on there.

i dont think the half shaft seal is that hard to do. a friend did mine while i passed him the spanners:augie if it went again i would have a go but i would be more concerned about getting the wheel bearing and free wheeling hubs back on correctly. if you read the downloads and think you can manage that it may well be in your capabilaties..

Checkout the Quick Links menu and choose downloads. Then browse through the downloads and you'll see the answers to both problems.

PS well worth the tenner just for those:clap

are you sure the 'seal' isnt actually a cv gaitor (on the shaft itself)and the clunking is the joint on the way out due to crap going in? on the plus side i can supply you a good second hand shaft if it is that for £50 inc p&p !

welcome to the club mate, are you talking front or rear shaft, Rick
