Help. Seriously ill husband. As partner I have now to take care of car. Some 'sweet thing' has busted my passenger side window - all of it. Any help where I could get a replacement on the web . Complete novice with cars to my shame as I've been driving 50yrs. I'm on a sharp learning curve. Thank you
Hi, so sorry to hear about your husband.
I had someone smash my mirror breaking the metal bracket holding it to the car so here are a few things I learnt regarding getting a correct replacement. Apologies in advance if you already know this.
1. is it electric (switch to right under steering wheel area in my car )
2. is it heated - my Terrano is a 2000 reg and and the mirrors are heated when I press the rear window demist button. So there is no obvious separate switch for them. Press the button give it a few minutes and feel the mirror glass unless you can see the back of the damaged mirror glass. Mine has a heating element on the back with a power wire connected to it.
3. Do you need the colourcoded plastic panel. Mine was fortunately not damaged. This can be unscrewed from the inside of mirror casing and swapped over to the new casing so I did not need to source mirror assembly from same coloured car ( much easier to get same colour though as removing mirror to get at screws can be a right pain - I cracked mine )
I got my complete mirror assembly from a online salvage yard search company called 1stchoice or Breakeryard , sorry cant remember but it cost £45. delivered.

Enter your car details and any relevant information then any yards with the part will send you info by email or text. I said no to text as they charged to receive them but email was free.
My other option was ebay, there seems to be lots of Terrano's being broken for parts all the time and posting such a small item does not seem a problem.
The only other thing I learnt was try to get one from a car of the same year, to stand the best chance of getting the correct wiring. Mine came from a 2004 reg and the main electric connection plug on the mirror assembly was a different shape to the one on the car ( behind door card ) so they would not fit together. I had to reuse my old wiring. All worked out okay though.
I am more than happy to stand corrected on any of the above and :bow to greater knowledge as I am by no means experience with car mechanics etc and this is just what I learnt along the way and passing on my experience.
Good luck and all the best.
