Note lately that if go over a decent speed hump or through a pot hole, which is pretty
much all the time the radio or cd sound goes off, or at next bump on again.

Also sometimes if 'stuck' off opening or shutting nsf door brings sound back!

Suggestions for issue, thinking wire in door, or hinge area, or may be loose wire on nsf
speaker....would it going to ground cause radio to cut out sound on rest of speakers?

or could issue be in the head unit, though slamming of door does seem to point to nearer
source ?

Also if is grounding is there any safety risk involved, shorts, sparks etc.

Does the radio go right off, or just loose sound?
Is it the original one, or an after market one?

Shorting a speaker to ground would normally blow the output transistors of the radio, stopping it permanently, but some radios do have short cct protection, not sure what effects that would have though, as I have never done it. I would have thought it would just stop the audio until you turned the power to the radio off and back on though.

Most times, the wires in the door hinge go open cct, rather than short, so unless you have been doing any mods in that area, that would be pretty unlikely, and even then, while the sound will stop coming out that speaker, you should still have it out of the rear speakers, and probably the other front as well.

If it is an after market one, I think I would be looking for the feed wire, and checking the in-line fuse housing, as they do have a habit of going brittle and falling apart over time.

I had the same issue, turned out to be a cracked battery connection on the + side, common fault apparently. There's a post about it.

radio stays on, as in display lit etc, its original nissan nats cd player.

notice tonight that have an iissue going over bumps or on left hand corners
interior light comes on along with door warning on dash. now its always done
this but now feels like doing it more. ie before dash warning flickered as did dome
light but now comes on fully quicker for longer.

would battery lead do this, do you mean at battery? some of it seems random
but generally follows some patterns.

hi I had an issue with the door light on the dash coming on and it was the keep in the boot door needed adjusting. seems obvious but might be worth checking wires behind head unit?
