Following on from my adjusting clutch thread.

I brought my boat home this week and pushed it up the drive. The clutch is now sliipping badly in all gears. So I am probably looking at a new clutch I always thought it was disengaging with the pedal too high. Car has done 58K

What price am I looking at to have the job done?

Is it a job that anyone has done themselves on the drive? I did one on a Renault 6 about 40 yrs ago. Probably still fit enough to do it if it is not too difficult (I have workshop manual and will look at but wanted people's personal experience).

Source for parts please? I have used Milner Off Road in the past but they are not showing correct parts on their website.

What make do people recommend please?

How much are parts (Clutch, cover plate, thrust bearing) roughly.
Flywheel if needed

Is a non dual mass flywheel a direct replacement (With suitable clutch plate etc. )

There has always been a rattling noise when the clutch is depressed when the clutch is depressed in some gears, (Not a rumbling and not when clutch fully depressed) Any one any idea what this may be, I would like to get that sorted as well if possible but thing it might be in the gearbox.

In the end I got it sorted. Useful Info here.

Interesting info on the drive train form the same USA owner's forum.here.

Interesting links

What surprised me is how some old rule of thumb formulae can still apply.

Back in the sixties my late father said that as a general rule the labour cost for fitting a part was close to the cost of the part. Obviously there are exceptions but it is a handy guide even today.

If I am reading right your parts were £300 and labour was £280 !
Back in the early 70's a new clutch cost about £30 fitted, £15 in bits £15 labour!

Q.E.D.

Glad you got it sorted.

I realise you have put a link to the resolution in this thread, but have you thought of doing a summary in this thread?

I realise that this forum tends to be Terrano /Patrol orientated, but they won't be around for ever, (sorry Rick / Rustic! ), and I for one am thinking of going down the Pathfinder road in a few years time.

It needs some people like yourself to blaze a trail and put as much info down as possible. It will help keep the forum going and start to build a more comprehensive database of info for the future.

Just a thought.

Happy to do that.

Below is a copy of the resolution to the problem I posted on a US web site, a link to the US thread and input is contained in the post I made in Post 2 of this thread (13.06 today 17 November 2015.)

Hi Just thought I would post an update.

I got the vehicle recovered to a specialist transmission place who replaced Clutch plate, thrust bearing, cover and dual mass flywheel at quoted price of £512 plus 20% VAT (Sales Tax) They also serviced the vehicle and carried out the compulsory annual Ministry of Transport which was due.

Clutch was utterly barbecued, cover plate and DMF were probably still serviceable but I wanted them replaced.

Glad I didn't attempt it myself, Dual Mass Flywheel was heavy enough on its own. Garage charged me £300 for clutch parts which was about 20% more than I could have got them for which is fair enough. Labour charge was reasonable at about £280 for clutch etc. and service, so clutch 4 hours or less.

Thanks for the input folks. I have posted a link to this thread and the excellent descriptions of the workings of the drive train on a UK Nissan 4x4 owner's club. http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=89[/URL] It is for them I name the garage used.
