Hello All,

I'm a novice at engines but would like to tackle changing the oil and oil filter for my 1995 Nissan Mistral.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a suitable Mistral maintenance manual (either book or CD - don't mind).

Many Thanks,
MM

I'm pretty sure that someone will contact you about the CD manual on here. However one quick word of advice about oil change. The filter is above the chassis leg and without fail oil spill on here, make sure you clean it off properly otherwise you will think that you have an oil leak.

Theres no Haynes type manual available but the Nissan workshop manual is available online HERE

When changing the filter remove the splash guard from the inner wing and you'll be able to get at it more easily.

This photo shows a petrol model but the principal is the same.

Picture - the blue thing is the filter

Thanks Jim / Hummingbird for your replies...

Thats a great help and I'll keep you posted about how I get on.

I'm starting my basic car maintanence course next week (got it for Christmas) and they say they'll provide me with the essential car tool kit that I'll need. They reckon it'll cost 50 quid. This sounds reasonable to me but I don't know what the kit consists of yet! What do you think?

there bound to be making profit on stuff but theyve had do the shopping and running round etc and as you say depends on content and quality!
very clever christmass present someone got you there much better than pair socks lol

lol - yeah - I just hope I manage to maintain - more than I break!

I'll take it easy to start with... fingers crossed...

Managed some very basic stuff so far... greased elec window channels with silcone spray - they work better now...

Bought a new back light assembly from ebay and replaced it OK as old lense was cracked. Replaced front lights with Osram nightbreaker bulbs - lights much brighter now.

Bit worrried I may be blinding people - they are very bright. Saw another thread about adjusting angle of beams so will look into this also.

I just need some new socks now... blast...!

I wouldn't adjust your headlamps your self just yet, chances are they will be fine. Stick with this web site you will get loads of advice and help. good to hear you are begining to get stuck in with to what some people may say are easy basic jobs but to someone who hasn't really had a great deal to do with cars can really give you a sense of achievment. Have a look at the downloads section on here as there are some workshops that have some good ideas. Have a look at the steering lock stops workshop, dead simple and can help get rid of a horrible noise. Most of all enjoy the car and any work you do. At least once everyone who owns a 4x4 should try a green lane day just to see what the cars will actually do. Don't be affraid to ask questions on here as everyone has been in the same boat as you and the help advice is allways ready and waiting.

Thanks - thats very encouraging.

I love this site - honestly - great for picking up tips and tricks.

I even read threads that aren't relevant to me at the mo. I'm sure I'm picking up valuable information in the process. Even if its just getting used to the termonology and seeing the problems other people have had to face.

Point taken on the headlamp thing. I will leave it for now then for sure.
I'm sure your right.

MM.
