Hi have bought a tidy little Micra today for my daughter to commute to college, drove it around a bit then went back to pick it up tonight. Great when its cold and choke on but as soon as any warmth in engine it wants to cut out!! Anybody got any ideas as to what could be causing it? Its an N regd 1.0 if that helps?
Cheers Rich..

Don't know if it has one but if it was a Terrano with the TDI I would be saying check the Crank Shaft Posisition Sensor.

Is the MAL light displaying anything?

Jim

Hi Jim, no lights dislaying till it cuts out then just battery and engine lights, fires back up, but having to use handbrake to stop/slow down as need to keep revs up to stop it cutting out..lol

Could be you're over choking it then.

Not sure if that model has a manual choke though, but either way it sounmds like a choke issue?

I'd try squirting a generous amount of carb cleaner down the appropriate orifice and see what happens....might just be a sticky flap. Oh sorry, wrong site

On an N reg it should be a K11 which was electronic fuel injection so shouldn't have a manual choke.

Jim

If you start it & just leave it ticking over...
Once the choke cuts out...
Will it then stall.?
Could it just simply need the idle turned up a bit.?
"IF" it's not what has wisely been said above.?

Hi just read through all the replies, Its not a manual choke just that when its cold and the auto choke is on its fine , ive run about in it today and it didnt cut out as much but does hesitate on the throttle when warm!! Changed plugs and air filter today too but not made much difference if any at all. Car hadnt been run till yesterday since the end of november, was plenty of condensation coming out of exhaust this morning so ran it down the bypass and was fine when I came back. Dont really know too much about these cars but hoping its nothing to serious!! Cheers Rich..

Will only be something minor if anything :thumbs

Micra's are wicked lill cars :thumbs

can you post a picture of the old spark plugs on here, especially the end that sparks.
the colour of the electrodes may hold some clues

ok will do that tomorrow, just been on a 10 mile round trip and didnt miss a beat!! but pulled into my street and nearly stopped and then hesitates on throttle...:nenau

Is it the 16v engine? If it is it needs a bloody good thrash...10 miles will only warm it up.

And stick some fresh fuel in it, petrol does go off.

Yeah it's the 16v engine, So a good blast up M6 may cure it then?? lol

I'd say so, had a couple of them and I'm running an R-plate with 83k miles at the mo as a runabout but its taken me to south-west France with no probs and regularly does the 320-mile round trip to Oxford and back.

If not then there are a couple of decent Micra forums out there, worth joining. Just don't tell your mates eh! :lol

Thanks for the replies guys!! took it 50 miles on M6 today didnt miss a beat and didnt attempt to stall at all even when the traffic was slow at B'HAM turn off, quite nippy too and great on fuel, will still post pics up of plugs i changed when iv'e got to grips with photobucket!! :)
