Right, so the next fix I want to do on my car is get my ignition barrel fixed.

I think I managed to break it by being a little over enthusiastic when I was switching the ignition from 0 - II when trying to program my remote keyfob

Ever since then whenever I turn the key to the II position as far as it will turn, the engine will start to turn over but then as soon as it's fully turned it will click and stop turning over and all of the dash lights will flash. I then have to turn the key back to 0 and wait for the immobiliser to disarm and then turn it over again.

I'm worried that one day it's going to pack in completely and I'm going to be stranded somewhere

My question is, is this likely to be the electronic part of the barrel at the end and can that be replaced on it's own, the reason I ask this is because I don't want to have to replace the barrel and have 1 key for the doors and another for the ignition

Anyone else had any experience of this?

Cheers Guys

most likely the ignition switch backplate, can be removed very easily but the screw is in a tight spot.

Anyone got pics or part number for this? Also, is it the same for all versions as my Mk1 has the same issue, been like it for a year now, good anti theft device! :D

Here's a pic of it in situe as well :)

Glad it's just a case of removing the backplate and replacing it :)

Might see if I can pick me one up from the scrapyard at some point or does anyone have one on here?

It was quite funny when I took my car to the garage for a pressure test and they rang me saying my car was broke and they couldn't get it started lol, I explained to them how to get it started and they laughed as I heard it start in the background.

Only worth it if you can get it cheap enough as you won't know how old the one from the scrapyard is.

Don't worry, I go by the unwritten rules of the scrapyard

If it fits in your pocket it's free!!! :)
