mmmme likey very much :D A fair old beast indeed :sly
I'm looking forward to your offroading Trol input. Any help , just shout :thumbs
Patrol has to be one of the most competent old skool 4x4 by far, straight out the box.
What size tyres are they? You may need to sort gearing if they're 35s
Enjoy :naughty

This is the kind of info and input I need. Those tyres are 37's. I am running a LC 80 series on 37's and the gears are 4.56's. What is the std diff ratios?

Andy

Thought they looked tastey :naughty
I cant remember as there are so many? I know the std SWB 4.2 diff was too low for 35s so I've changed to GU diffs.
I've got the ratios somewhere though. I'll have to sober up a bit and find them for you ;)

Ha, ya got it:clap
Ok ok I'll tell ya, I gave £1695 for it. I thought,Tyres £500 Winch £200 Truck in standard form £1000. Did I do right?

Andy

DELETE DELETE DELETE :lol
Poor old Fez, I can see him now, throwing the rope over the beam, fumbling with the knot, tottering up the chair and muttering to himself :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Yep you did well, very well :naughty

In fairness I have been after this Trol since May. It belonged to a friend who unfortunatly passed away and was subject to probate and eventually released to be sold by the trust with all interested parties invited to bid by sealed bids. Mine was obviously the highest and the one which was accepted.

Andy

Fez, is one of Team Wales and desperate to buy a SWB trol. Nothing coming up and he's too mean to travel :lol
He'll be along tomorrow I guess to drool a bit :)

Ratios can be all over the place
basically standard on rd28 is 4.6 , rb30 4.3 td42 ute 4.3 or 4.1, td42 wagon 4.1,
tb42 wagon 3.9 and 4.1 apparently.
Borrowed that off the Aus forum I use. I've got complete GU axles and diffs for my 35s so now 4.6 ratio
37s will need bigger again I guess.
Big advantage of the GU axles is they have bigger callipers and discs. Also stronger CVs Pretty handy when thrashing about with 37s at the end of 4.2 litres of torque :naughty

A good price indeed. Where did you find it???

I would be more gutted but im about to start celebrating new year in brussels.

now there is dedication, on line to us lot when raving it up in Brussels, have a good one mate, Rick

Well I will have to see what ratios are in the truck. I can't ask my mate who built it what he did but I suspect he didn't re gear it. I take it they are 9" ring gears on these axles?. I don't intend to throw a ton of money at this so I may go down the route of s/h diffs of 4.6 ratio. Besides I might not want 37's on all the time for road use ( the original wheels with good A/T's are included.)

I knew of the truck and pursued it from there, it took 7 months and then I had to go through the sealed bid process.

Hi ho Hi ho its off to collect a Trol we go!!

Pics to follow later

Andy

Well got to Loughborough this morning a 7.55 and got into position to load. Horrible weather.
Straight out and on.

Fastest turn around ever, lashed on by 8.10.
Paperwork and payment in 5 min including loading spare wheels,High lift jack into the Burb.
Away at 8.15, fastest turn around ever!!
Stop to check straps.

Back home.

Checked it out on the ramp, a few jobs to do. A small plate on the chassis in front of the rear axle, a small plate at the rear of the sills also but I guess that goes with buying a 19 year old Trol. The gear shift is a little stiff but has loosened off as has the transfer lever.
I'm a bit undecided about the tyres, they are 37x14.5x16 and catch on the front trailing arms on lock so I may have to re think these for some narrower ones.
Anyway I will have a look tomorrow as the weather is poor.
