Newbie Saying Hi

Hi All

New to the site and a big Hi to everyone.

Having always had the urge to buy a 4x4 i've decided to bite the bullet and I'm going to look at a 1998 Nissan Patrol GR SE 2.8td on saturday.
Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction of any faults I should be looking for when I view and test drive the truck.
I've attached a photo of the Patrol I'm going to see, what do you guys think, its done 80k miles and has a full service history.

I have a T2 not a trol so cant really help and you should take my advice with a pinch of salt. But nissans tend to have rust probs, so check the sills/chassis for rust. And since these are part time 4wd check that the 4wd is working correctly.

Don't know the newer ones so well but that sounds about right.

If it's an auto box then get the transmission up to working temp and check everything.

If it has auto hubs on the front wheels then check them as well.

If you don't know how to then just ask and someone on here will help

On a road you should not really use 4wd or you will get 'wind up'. This can damage the transmission, though in my experience it does not if you dont turn quickly.

When I test drove my T2 i simply put it in 4wd and drove off slowly on the dealer's tarmac and turned the steering wheel. If there is significant resistance and the engine nearly stalls then 4wd is probably working well. Or if you dont want to risk any damage then take it to piece of grass, put it in 4wd and floor it while your mate watches. If the front wheels spin then all is working.

Hopefully it should go:augie:naughty.

There is a lo ratio gear I think. When you put it in low gear everything is halved so in 5th gear you will have top speed of only 30ish. Ist gear in low is so slow you can walk quicker.

Hi gear 4wd can be engaged whilst on the move, whilst low gear 4wd can only be engaged when stationary and in neutral.
