Hi all,

Im Matt from the UK and have a Y60 TD42 SWB.

The reason for joining is that I have a problem with the gearbox...

The gearstick doesn't seem to spring back to neutral which can make selecting gears a bit difficult. :doh

I've taken the stick out and have now removed the top plate off the gearbox (held in by 6 12mm bolts), but there are no springs or anything.
How can I fix this issue??

Here's a few pics...

I've just realised that this seems to be a UK based forum...
I live on the outskirts of Coventry and I will be using this truck for pay and play days.
There aren't many people with Patrols in the UK, but I'm struggling to find on my problem elsewhere.

Welcome to the forum, Great truck think I may have seen it for sale a few months back or maybe longer?

I would also advise looking on the Australian forums, tons more own them there and more likely to get a idea whats what.

I work in Warwick matey, just recently got a new job at Warwick School on Myton Road if you fancy meeting up, can show you an awesome lane about 20 mins away as well

Not specifically aware of this problem but when was gearbox oil changed last ?
Could be water in there :/ Check breathers etc
Love a trol but those guards eeuuuw are they LR
Fez, get your MOJO sorted, we need to meet up with these new Trol types :D

Yeah, the gear oil definitely needs changing, but I can't see that bringing back the springiness.

It needs a bit of work. I've patched up a couple of holes in the boot floor and one on the chassis and rebuilt the front axles plus I'm binning those arches in favour of new ones and I've bought some 35" simex tyres on offset modular rims ready for the sticky stuff.

Banshee - the Mrs dad works at Myton in a care-taker type role. I know most of the lanes round here, but I'm guessing you're referring to the one from Princethorpe to Ufton?

To be honest, I did a few pay and play days and lost interest in laning as it wasn't really very challenging. Still a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon though. :thumbs

I found an easy solution to the arch problem:thumb2
I don't think it looks too bad:nenau
Check out my threads:thumbs

On welcome another Troll to the forum:thumb2:thumb2

Welcome bud :thumbs

Nice Trol! Fez, stop partying and get yours finished :lol

Sounds terminal, you should sell her to me, no seriously you should :thumb2

Have you replaced the two plastic bushes?? One small and one large ring with a steel pin in each side, these tend to cure the really sloppy vague feel.. Google something like GQ shifter bush kit or oem lever bush kit.. Oz and nz both know them as GQ patrols more commonly.

Everything is on hold until next year, might be moving out from home in about 2 months so will need to get settled in and see how much bills will be etc.

Then depends if I want a van more :( :)

Just to give a bit of closure on this...

After driving the truck around for a bit it also jumps out of 1st, 3rd and 5th gear when you let off the throttle.

It turned out to be the detent springs in the gearbox... Well, I took the spring out (pried it out) and the hole was full of muddy water which has caused the detent ball bearing to weld itself to the gearbox. I filled the holes with penetrating fluid and even 2 weeks later the oil hasn't drained past the ball.
Hence, scrap gearbox. :clap

Here's a few pics of the 'some' of the welding and how it currently stands. :D
MOT next week!!
