Hi, Im new here so not sure this is the correct place to be posting this, I looked in the maverick engine section, but there were no posts I could see, so as im new I thought this would be good place to start.

I am the proud owner of an 'N' plate Maverick. I love her to pieces. SHe really does go anywhere and gets abused on a daily basis.

My problem:
Im having trouble with the brakes. If I hit them at a junction to stop they work, but if I hit them, then back off a little then re-apply them, there is no assistance, they are solid & little happens. A little frighteniong if it catches you off guard. The hand brake light also comes on when the brakes do this. I have had the garage look at it and they think the only thing it can be is my brake servo. The really unfortunate thing is that Ford want £750 for a new one.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and once again, appolergies if this is in the wrong place.

Cheers

Chris

hi we probably can help, and someone is probably breaking one. but we cant help till you have joined fully:thumbs

looking forward to seeing you as a full member

If it's a oil burner then it may be the vacuum pump which is fitted to the back of the alt.

Wow, I have joined a number of forums in the past, but never has the response been so immediate, so posertive and so helpful, for which I am very grateful.

It is the engine in the pic & I had wondered what that pump was on the end of the alt. WHat do you mean when you say "an oil burner"? She doesnt use any oil.

Oh and yes, I did jump a dyke, many years ago, in a car I try my hardest to not be connected with. It was a Skoda Favorit. To be fair to the car, it cleared the dyke, landed on the road and dropped into a dyke on the other side of the road. Expensive short-cut.

Cheers

I appolergise for my dumbness. Yes it is a TD. Which would you think is more likely, vacuum pump or servo?

Quite often by taking the vacuum pump apart and turning the vanes around inside if they are worn, will over come many problems. Worth having a look to see if they are worn any way. Not a big job and will cost you nowt to try.

If your still having problems it may be worth checking the seal on the servo where the master cylinder joins it.

Nice one! Is that the English dyke or the Scottish dyke?

Or a lessa?? :naughty

As Toolbox says, the pump some times gets all stuckup (for a better word) inside with the oil getting old & baking the vanes into their slides.

Glad you got the help you needed. We went on a rally course one weekend and the cars being used were Skoda :thumbs
They put up with loads of abuse no prob;)but the Subaru being used by the cleverer drivers had to be fixed up almost every driver:eek:
Good luck with the brakes , dont want you parking the mav. in another dyke:lol

The dyke was a british fenland dyke, approximatly 10' accross.

And yes, that Skoda was bomb proof, things I did to it, and it just took it.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll have a look and see if I can work out how to whip the pump off tomorrow. Is there anything I need to be aware of when removing and striping it?

Cheers
