Hello all
I've had a new thermostat fitted. When i was on motorway
doing 70 to 80 mph, the temperature gauge never went over half way.
It seemed to move slightly up and down. Before i had it fitted, the gauge
never went up so far. Would you say it was behaving normally ?
All comments very welcome.

depends on what temperature the replacement stat is, sounds like it is higher than your old one, why did you have the new one? Rick

If the gauge is reading just under half way, then i would say it's Ok.

as above, depends what temp thermostat was fitted, mine rarely hit half way, so if yours is about that then all is well I would say.

I couldn't go faster than 65 mph on motorway. When he tested my old thermostat
It wouldn't open.

sounds like you have a problem sorted then?! you will notice it more in Winter, when you heaters are ready much quicker.

Mine only used to go to 1/4 but now when the car is up to temperature it sits bang on 1/2 way up since up put my 82 degrees one in :)

Read this thread of mine, there's an interesting picture in there as well where I tested the old one I removed and it was stuck closed, I boiled it to 100 degrees and it still didn't open

Thanks for all your replies they were really help full.
Now i know it's working normally.

on my old mistral sally :grouphug, the temp guage never went above quarter ,very very occasionally between quarter and a half when I give it some boot , but never up to halfway .

That's interesting Briggie,i wonder why my new one does'nt.

no harm in checking coolant level in the rad as well as expansion tank tho , level should be covering the fins in the rad .

I checked them Briggie. The expansion tank was filled right over the max line,
The rad level was ok,
