My new rules of engagement:

I will help you by towing your stuck fwd hatchback with bald tyres containing you and your children out of the snow if:
- your polite
- you genuinely didn't realise this track had a 17% hill on it
- you genuinely didn't realise just how slippery compacted ice was
- you do everything you reasonably can to aid your rescue
- you seem to accept it might be a good idea to have a tow rope with you next time

I won't be towing you out if:
- when I ask you where your towing point is you reply "what's a tow point"
- you have no idea what a towing eye is or where it might be, or where it might go
- you make no effort to get out of your nice warm car to assist me sliding round your car trying to find your tow point
- you look at me like it's my duty to find your tow point
- you look at me like it's your right to be rescued
- you don't seem to grasp that I can't possibly tow you out unless we find a way to attach a rope to your car
- you don't appear to realise that taking your fwd hatchback containing you and your children down a 17% slope with untreated compacted ice on it when you clearly have no idea how to control a vehicle and when you had the opportunity at the top of said 17% slope to pause on the nice clear Tarmac underneath the shelter of the m40 flyover to observe the half dozen other idiots sliding around on the same slope and consider that it might not be a good idea to turn back to the treated main road and accept it will take an extra 5mins to get the kids to school this morning!!!!:doh

Rant over.

:thumbs:lol

too right!

good that you helped despite their idiocy, I reckon after what you listed id have just driven off and left them to their survival skills....:bow

I am glad it is not just around here there are idiots like that. We get them every year when the first snow or frozen morning happens.

I usually see them sliding gently into a roadside ditch. :doh

I like it best when they fly pass me when im in low 4wd, doing 20mph

Then they wave me down asking to help them out the ditch at the first corner

LOL.......I used to subsidise my fuel bill on a very thirsty L/R in the winter, pulling out the dumbos.......

Not just any old picture but a picture of the recovery point if possible, what ever one of them is !!

walshie is a man after my own heart.....

After years of being 'used' by 'instant friends' who don't want to know for the rest of the year let alown offer any help, I now resort to 'have you got a tow rope?' first (even though I carry one for personal use & a trench spade & sand mats). The reply is always 'no haven't you got one?', to which I reply 'it's not me that needs one it's you'. To their utter surprise I usually leave them to it. I don't have a 4x4 for anyone elses benifit but mine & a few selected caravanning or real friends. These get all the help they need no matter what (I do a lot of caravan meet stewarding).

Got sick of being taken for granted by 'users' a long time ago. The worst, in my experiance, are motorhome owners who usualy get stuck in mud or long grass & haven't even the most basic equipement to aid extraction doohhh!!!.

Which reminds me I must get some decent tyres fitted: I've had to be towed off muddy fields twice in 2 seasons! This never happened with my Frontera, but then that had much better tyres.

I think I should adopt these rules Walshie as I get taken for granted every time there is snow/ice and generally get next to zero gratitude for my efforts.

In fact I think there should be a sticker made up with these rules to attach to our kings of the road:D

Sorry guys, didn't even think to get the camera out, I promise next time it snows I'll take the same route to work and no doubt it will be the same scene.....seemingly unlimited supply of idiots down here!
