so far so good, have decided what colours it is going to be and where i am going to put the roof lights so more to follow soon :D

Well my first thought was, what could you use a heavy rack like this for, as the empty rack would have been your total weight you could safely carry on the roof.:doh but now it's a bit lighter...

If I had it, it would have to carry a sheet or two of 8 x 4 ply, chip board etc

Or even a mattress.

May be you can convert it to a tent and sleep up there.:nenau

I can only imagine the wind noise in side the truck when that is fitted, especially at 60+ mph.

Bargain price though.

I was thinking about those roof tents the other day. The bars on my Terrano say they are only any good for 50Kg or there abouts. So does that mean that they would be no good for one of those roof tents, since I am built for comfort, and can never see me getting to a weight anywhere near that, and I am definitely not being brave enough to tell the wife she will need to go on the scales before sleeping up there..:bow

I was also wondering how you intend to actually put anything on the roof rack. I was going to put my roof box on my car, but once it is up there, I can not reach into it. I need to carry a step ladder, which takes up all the room the roof box just created.:nenau

if you look at the rear it has a roll on bar also the sidesteps come in handy :lol

on the way back with it there wasn't really any noticeable noise, also there will be extra fixings put onto it so it can carry some extra weight but it will only really be used for suitcases etc. when goin on hols, having 6 kids i need the extra bag space lol

well done the last bit of welding its now finished in the build stage just the painting and the `extras` to do :lol

Wow, that is not how I was expecting it to finish up, from the pictures you would never know it was not always like that.

Well done.
