When side lights on the high beam light is on and a relay some place is chattering, still have control of dipped and high beam but clearly there is a problem, any ideas, Rick

Find the relay and give it a wiggle, or replace, if not relay then maybe the switch/stalk.
I once sprayed brake cleaner into my terrano lights stalk to get it working better!

Can I just say, Brake cleaner on switches is not a good idea.. firstly it is often highly inflammable and switches usually arc when making and breaking contact. Also, it often attacks some of the plastics used in them.

Much safer to use proper contact cleaner.

Only use brake cleaner if you have the switch apart and can spray it onto a cotten bud or some such, and use it to directly wipe the actual contact.

I agree sounds like an earth issue.

My first thoughts are an earth problem somewhere

Sounds like an earthing issue, might sound like a daft question but have you put any new bulbs in anywhere?

If you have swap them for a different one.
A simple thing like a poorly made stop/tail lamp bulb can cause havoc!

Well the chattering relay is far from a simple thing, it is labeled as dim-dip lamp unit with 10 terminals looks like a long job, Rick

What he said!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody hell Doug

I'm not worried about that mate it's 12v

Just don't go near 240v with the same logic!!!!!!

Well my problem resolved itself fairly easily, corroded os head lamp bulb connector, new bulb and clean up and a dob of silicon grease sorted it, glad it was not the relay, looks expensive, Rick

Had exactly the same issue last year on my terrano.
The bulb holder had gone brittle and started to crumble away.
The main beam wire was touching on the dipped beam wire on rough ground and switching the main beam on and off.
New bulb holder from vehicle products sorted mine out:thumb2

My late Mothers Micra blew a headlamp bulb almost every year for about 5 years, I became fed up with replacing them so replaced the bulb holder as the push on contacts were not very tight, never put a bulb in it again!
