I had a spare ignition key cut and chipped by Timpsons for my 2.7 Terrano (no remote button) - works fine, but the alarm goes when I unlock the car and only stops when I start the engine, any ideas how to stop this happening, please?

i may be wrong , but , dont you need the original " red key " to program any new keys ?

is it an aftermarket alarm? this may explain why it goes of when you open the doors, which means a seperate fob-sorry im probably stating the obvious.

If its the manu facturers alarm then i believe there is a way to silence it, but you will need the manual.

On mine, you have to do a process-open door, key in ignition, close door, key off, open door, that sort of thing, perhaps its simialr for your Terrano?

failing that, disconnect the alarm! (only joking)

Thanks Clivvy, I have now found that if I try and unlock the car manually with the proper key, the alarm also is triggered - I shall have a look in the manual.

It is the manufacturers alarm, incidently.

ok, sound svery much like you need to silence the alarm, as you will need a new fob (and get it programmed), i wonder if anyone else on the forum knows how to do this??

Mine does the same even if I use the original key, seems to me the only way round it is a second fob, I only use the motor rarely so will not go to the expence, Rick
