Hi all. Im new here, I spotted the site on the internet and it looked pretty good. I have got a m reg ford maverick 2.7td bought as a replacement for my petrol isuzu trooper. The maverick seems to be pretty good so far but it has a couple of issues that im hoping you guys can help me with please. The rear end seems to steer / pul to the centre of the road when I accellerate hard . I've had the wishbone bushes replaced on the front as recommened by the garage but it hasn't made any difference. I've never experienced the problem before on any of the vehicles i've had and its slightly un nerving when it happens. I have wondered if it's a fault with the lsd in the rear axle or somewhere in the suspension. The other problem it has is it seems to be a bit heavy on diesel " I do have a slightly heavy right foot " but due to the rear end issue I haven't driven it that hard. Any help or advice would be much apreciated.

hmm could be any number of things

wrong lsd oil - id change it anyway cos its bound to have the wrong oil in it - it must be proper lsd oil nothing else not even lsd aditive

rear bushes - particularly the bar that goes side to side but any could give this your problem

steering idler or bushes - you will notice there are 6 ball joints between the front wheels as well as the idler and relay bar . this will make steering sloppy and steering poor.
jack the front up and with a friend hold drivers side wheel tight and see how much play notice on the passenger side wheel. possibly a lot there but again easy fix and quite cheep - also idler could have worn bushes or it could be bent

caliper sliders - remove front calipers and copper grease the sliders common problem - easy fix

tracking - obvious but check for play on front joints first as described above

check all tyres match they might show the same size , but if they are different brands they will likely measure different sizes

Hi,i'm new too - hello

New here -I've got a 2005 X-Trail 2.5SVE.....excellent motor with loads of surprises (chilled drink holders!!). In the past I had a Nissan Terrano import 2.7 td (looks like a Hilux rather than a mistral, that was a good 4wd, bit thirsty but strong.
I live in Hertfordshire (Welwyn) and wondered if there were many folks nearby with an appreciation for the excellent Nissan?

Thanks for the welcome messages guys :thumb2 so first on my list of jobs is to change the lsd oil then and see if that makes a difference. Is the oil available from motor factors or is it mainstealer only, is replacing the oil just a case of emptying it then filling it back up until oil comes out of the filler hole. I will be joining as it looks like a good site. I live in the county of Ceredigion.

LSD is dead easy to do and the oil ,LSD only mind,easily avail at motor factors. I got mine in 1litre bottles as you need 2.8 for the diff, simples

Don't forget as with all the gearbox's check that the filler undo's first or you could empty and not be able to fill:doh

Hi well got some lsd diff oil. Its made by "morris" and its got XEP90 API GL5 limited slip differential and final drive oil on the front and it says on the rear that it meets the following spec's API, GL5,MIL-L-2105D,and CS3000B. im assuming its the right stuff but want to check with you guys before i do the job as I know not all lsd oil is the same.

Welcome to the site. Would suggest like others that the first thing to try is the LSD oil. You appear to have the correct oil if it says GL5 and LSD oil on it. What are the tyres like. Would also have a look at the tyres. Are they matching sizes? What kind of thread and what's the pressure like in them. Eliminate the easier things first and then go from there.

hi all just been out to try and do the job but got as far as un doing the filler plug using a 1/2 inch ratchet but the drain plug has a square hole a bit smaller than 1/2 inch. am i going to have to buy a special tool or is there another way round it. I also noticed that the oil looked quite dark brown.

should be 1/2 inch drive . jut use your ratchet . it could be a little rounded as they often scuff. if it is tap an extension bar in the hole then rachet

thanks again will try and take another look at it tomorrow and see if i can get the extension bar/ ratchet bar in the hole. it was starting to get a little dark and wet out there. As for the tyres i think there the same size and tread will check up on them too. had thought the next thing to look at if the lsd oil doesn't work and the tyres etc are ok would be the panhard rod bushes as the panhard rod keeps things in line if im correct.

yep but very rare for one of those to be worn out . but there are plenty of bushes under the rear
