You have to be a full member to access all the sections. I joined a couple of weeks or so back when I got the Terrano & I reckon it was a tenner well spent.

Hi Stretch, welcome aboard to you both. You'd have to pay your membership to view all of the topics and I can understand you'd rather wait until you have a Terrano. Stacks of info on here and how to sheets as well. Tell us the details of the motor your looking at. To be honnest they're pretty bullet proof motors, having said that mines got a couple of probs at the mo but those were caused by a numpty mechanic:doh. If it's the 2.7 there's no timing belt to worry about as it's gear driven timing:thumb2 Depending on age the rear seat belt mounts rust in the rear wheel arch but no real difficulty to get welded. Same with the sills at the back too. Front wheels have "Auto Locking Free Wheeling Hubs" which can cause a bit of bother but not too serious and can be fixed without even jacking the car up. If your not 100% sure of it's history get all the oils changed, the rear diff needs PROPER LSD OIL (limited slip diff).
