Well, thanks to club workshop download, I have now renewed the front discs on the Mav... well nearly. The offside went ok. The nearside went even better until I came to put the new pads into the carrier and calliper and they wouldn't fit. This, i discovered, was because the carrier bolts are siezed and would not fully compress. Rang Ford and they quoted £96 + vat for new carrier. Needless to say I am in the process of freeing them off with lashings of wd40. Spoke to Milners 4x4 and they can supply the bolts for about 8 quid each. So i might end up drilling them out. That should fun but will keep you updated!

Good job I've still got the vectra!!

Got a blow torch, put some heat on em first, once you get a little movement work em back and forth with plenty of oil, Rick

I used a bloody port power to free / release 1 of my calipers

Left in soaking in oil nearly all of that weekend, then put it back on, no problems since :D

I think its because they don't do the work that a car does i.e. stopping speeds & the mud & crap that they encounter rusts & seizes them :(

Once I got mine moving I stuck the cordless on them and drilled them fwd and back with valve paste:D
Worked a treat in no time:thumbs

When you get it back together let us know if the new discs have improved the braking. Just had my MOT after MORE welding , passed but an advisory on poor brakes. I have always found the brakes poor compared to another t2 I have driven. I have checked and greased the calliper sliders but the brakes are poor. The discs are badly scored so that could be my next job, wondering if i they would make a big improvement. regards bri

thanks for your replies. Just to let you know that Milners did not have the terrano maverick slider bolts after all. Anyway it saved me some dosh because i managed to free it off and re grease. So we are back on the road again and the brakes are brill. The Vectra can go after all !!

Hi Bri, yeah the brakes are really good now. The old discs were pitted and scored. This vehicle had been stood unused for about 5 months and this just added to the problem, causing a pulsing through the brake pedal. When i got the discs off off I could not believe how bad they were, especially the side you can't see. Well worth doing. Got the discs and pads from Milners total cost with postage about 68 quid.

Regards Nev.

Hi Rick yeah had to use heat to get the carriers off in the first place. Cheers Nev

A few pics would be good buy not figured out how to down load them yet. I tried to post a pic of my mav but it wouldn't down load. A few tips would be helpful, Thanks
